I know this isn't what you're looking for, but if you can't get it to work, you can try Harry's lap timer on iOS or android. It will show you lap times and is a good interface. It's pretty cheap as well. Get a good iPhone mount and it works well.

Perry,

So the PDR itself (the post session, video data analysis software) should be the same for all Chevy's. That part is great, nothing wrong with it.

What I am bickering about is the lack of an actual in-car LIVE lap timer feature that shows up in the dash, as this is a HUGE part of even the most basic DAQ systems. The car features a "performance timer" function that is literally just a stopwatch in which you physically need to push a steering wheel button each 'lap' to reset it. This "feature" could have easily been integrated into the GPS PDR lap timer that you see during videos. Furthermore, at least on the one Zo6 (zo7 package) that ive been in, it did in fact have a GPS based lap timer feature on the dash. Further frustrating me even more that out cars didn't come with one.

I'm familiar with other lap timers and have used and currently use a few different ones (Harry's, Racepak, AIM) but was simply curious if the lack of a GPS timer was simply an oversight of mine or not. I guess it's back to good ol' Harry's!

Any recommendations on phone holders for this car? I usually use a vent mount, but that won't really work on this car haha.

I use this and believe it or not, it sticks very well to the dash which keeps it out of the way pretty well!

You can see where I mount it in this video: https://youtu.be/8p8LP4LmSSc it may not look it in the video but it is very much out of the way where it is important to look.

Bought my Camaro 1LE just a few hours ago. I couldn't find one with PDR and was a little bummed out. But now, after reading this thread, I feel that I lucked out.

I had a C7 with PDR that I sold - I'd have been pist if I had bought a Camaro with PDR only to find out no realtime lap time/best lap/previous lap display.

That completely defeats the purpose of a lap timer.

I ordered the following items from Amazon for my bubba PDR, that I will use with iPHone Harry's Petrolhead:

10 Hz GPS plugin for lightining:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

OBDII Bluetooth:
Plug:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'm told that iPhone 7 and later cameras don't work well due to Opitical Image Stabilization - so I also bought a cheap refurb Iphone 6S to use as PDR. Since it is not my primary phone (data only) I don't care if it flies off during an accident.

Since we have covered that a live lap timer in fact does not show on the Camaro digital display, can someone give me the pros and cons of Harry's Lap Timer and Race Chrono?

Which one do you prefer and why? Also which version should I get if all I'm interested in is live lap times? I won't use the app for any data. I'll analyze the PDR instead.

I used Harry's last year on a Samsung Galaxy S8, and plan to continue using it for the foreseeable future. I liked it because with the cheapest version you get pretty much everything you'd need for immediate lap time displays, and it typically lines up pretty well with PDR times. It also gives a bit better of a lap time breakdown and organization for each event you go to compared to PDR, and you can also compare to anyone else that's running Harry's that day. If you ever get to the point where you want to upgrade, you pay the delta between what you've already paid and what the upgrade version costs instead of the full cost of the upgraded version. I was also attracted to Harry's because it seemed pretty expandable to accept CAN bus and external GPS data should the time ever come where I get a more track oriented car that doesn't have PDR.

It's also just about as easy to use as PDR since you just push one button before you start driving and it goes. It has tons of tracks saved to the Harry's database (meaning no track learning required), so once you figure out how to set it up it's pretty simple to use.

Only downside I've experienced with it so far is a rare finish-line crossing not being detected, meaning the lap time wasn't recorded. It's only happened to me at 1 of the 2 tracks I've been to and only for 2 or 3 laps out of the whole day, but it was annoying in that instance because it happened to not catch my fastest lap of the day (luckily I still had PDR to check afterwards).

I can't speak much to Race Chrono personally, but I know a few others that have tried both and they suggested I get Harry's when I was originally looking.

I use Harry's and my PDR. I plug the phone in while I'm out and if I adjust the volume correctly, I can hear the app tell me my time when I cross the line. I know it's not a life count-up clock but it's helpful. If you listen to any of my vids, you can probably hear her telling me the time every lap.

Harry's is great. I recommend it. I like the analysis display that shows you your entry and exit speed in each corner. That's super helpful.

I think if you want to get lap times good enough to help you improve, you can't rely on the Iphone or Android phone internal 1Hz GPS, since your lap times may be as much as 1 second off, and all your sector/predictive times, top speed, etc can be off as well due to the 1/sec sampling.

If you want to get down to the 1/10th of a sec precision, then you need an external GPS, like the one I posted above.

I've never noticed accuracy being that far off on my S8 using Harry's, and another friend of mine has similar performance on his S7 with Harry's as well. I'm within 0.1 or 0.2 seconds of every PDR time I've checked against, and PDR is using a dedicated 5Hz GPS.

I'm guessing most laptime software is using surrounding data points of location, speed, and acceleration to interpolate when you crossed the finish line instead of just using the GPS data alone. You won't have perfect times, but you'll have significantly better accuracy than ±1s if that's how the software is calculating times.
