RS brake lines on SS brakes

Hey all,

I have a 2016 v6 rs vert, and I have a chance at upgrading my brakes with SS Brembos on all four corners. Just one drawback: I don't get the REAR SS brake lines with the deal.

Does anyone know if I can the SS Brembo calipers with my existing rear brake lines? If not, does anyone know the part numbers for the Brembo rear lines?

Thanks!

May have wanted to ask this in the Suspension | Brakes | Chassis section.
But I'm currently working on trying to do a rear SS Brembo conversion on my car without brembos from the factory.

The rear stock brake setup is NOT compatible with Brembos. The reason for the differences is that the stock calipers have the E-Brake incorporated in the caliper. The SS Brembos use a Drum brake for the E-Brake. Not only is that different, but to have that setup requires even more modifications/part change outs to even attempt part of it.
The differences between the 2 are:
1) Rear chassis section on SS has brake cable mounting tabs for the drum setup.
2) Rear knuckles are different, A) to allow the cable use for drum brake, B) different caliper mounting tab locations, further out for the bigger rotors.
3) Different Wiring to the rear chassis, because the E-Brake cable actuator has more wires from the car. (but i'm not sure of the wiring diagram to create a bypass)

SO you basically needing a big change out just to mount the rears and have E-brakes, then still having to modify the electrical connections or make a totally separate control system to operate the E-brakes, which might cause car computer e-brake service errors as if it trys to test and not detect its operation.

Fronts shouldn't have any problems.

If your up for the challenge to swap rears, I would just buy the steel braided brake lines instead of searching for the OEM ones. I believe Phastek sells them for 150 and you won't regret it

OMG,

I had no idea it would be that crazy!!! Sounds like upgrading my RS to SS Brembos all around isn't going to happen. Guess I'll stick with upgrading to the Brembos fronts from the SS.

Thanks all for the info!

Ya, it is kinda of a lot, but only thing that is the hard part is the electrical as of now.
I have everything to do the switch right now and i made a bracket to bolt on to create the cable tabs on the rear chassis section, but kinda waiting to get some kind of wiring diagram information for the cable actuator to understand the extra wires to see if i can create a bypass/adapter. I even thought about just bypassing the electronics and creating a mechanical e-brake and lever.

With all the wrecked SS's, you basically just need to get the entire right/left rear knuckle assemblies off them(backing plates and e-brake shoes) and the e-brake cables and actuator. plus brake hose and the Brembos. That at least lets you mount them up.

The most important thing for me was not giving my dealer any reason to deny warranty service. My hope was just to swap the brake system with all OEM parts, but now that I know that the rear conversion needs more than just a bolt-on-swap, I might just stick with upgrading the front. Since the front Brembo upgrade is a factory option, my "stealer" won't have much to complain about.

Keep us posted, I'm VERY interested in this swap!

Thanks for all this information I was about to pull the trigger on a set. What if you are not concerned about the e-brake. I have never used mine yet Are they able to bolt up without pulling anything off A SS other then lines rotors bolts and calipers ?

I upgraded my front to the 6 piston Chevy performance brembos and to the DOT 4 Motul.. I bought the following material to:

VHT caliper Prep
VHT caliper brake cleaner
VHT high temp primer
VHT high temp red caliper paint
VHT high temp clear gloss

The whole key is to clean to where you can eat off these..

Step by step:

1. powerwashed with cleaner never get water inside or near pistons or the hole the Chevy performance comes with a very nice plug

2. caliper brake cleaner and sand logo off with 400 grit

3. caliper Prep

4. caliper brake cleaner

5. mask off bleed vents and rubber piston seals/boots use tack cloth to remove lint at this time to just before spraying.

6. primer... 2 light coats 10 min apart then a medium one

7. waited 30 min then applied red caliper paint again 2 ligh coats followed by a medium to heavy.

8. wait 1 hour to 2 hours for totally dried then apply high temp brembo decals

9. High temp clear to protect decals and paint again 2 light coats followed by medium to heavy

10. wait 30 min to handle by this time the oven should of been preheating to 200 degrees... bake in oven for 1hr to 2 hrs.

this process takes about 7 to 8 hours..

I plan on selling these to a RS owner along with shields, lines, pads, and rotors.. all marked even the pads.. good life left!

Sorry, been busy with house repairs past few months.
Still looking for a schematic of the e-brake electrical system from both RS & SS to compare the wiring & what they do.

Probably going to do something here soon.

Looking forward to it, if you're successful I'll likely follow in your footsteps

This is probably just a technicality, as the chances of it getting spotted are pretty much zero, but your car is technically illegal without the e Brake. All cars are designed by law to have a secondary braking system in the event of failure of the primary (hydraulic) system.

Technically the removal of the e Brake would invalidate your insurance as your car is no longer road legal.

As I say, this is probably a technicality and the chances of getting caught are pretty close to zero, but would be an individual choice if you wanted to take that chance

Cheers

Mark
