I gotta say I was dumbfounded. Whether true or not, the statement that this was a secret project kept away from the bean counters and lawyers until the execs were on board is a cool story to tell.

Likely a small market for a car like this, and honestly, you should have to have some driver training to own one. 9 second cars are NO joke.

The first hour of the presentation was over stated. I enjoyed when Tim got on stage though.

Very cool to see history unfold, I thought these days were long gone.

I wonder if the 840hp is with the intake cooler on? Its probably not allowed for SAE certification.

Well, the only downside to this thing is it's already banned from NHRA drag strips since no roll cage, only 3000 being made in year 1 (consider them already gone), and it's still a POS Dodge, warranty or not. No one's getting this car for MSRP at least for the next 2 years. It's almost like they factored in dealer premiums with that price based on what the Hellcat did. I guess it's time to start saving for that Proline motor.

Seriously though, no one should be able to walk into a dealer and buy this car, then show up at the strip without any experience...but it will happen and people will crash. The entire car is a PR stunt by a car company that's hanging on for its life. They can't sustain themselves on a low volume, halo car and have been trying for the past 2 years to be bought out.

You must mean just like nobody should have been allowed to buy the 5th Gen Z28 who didn't have prior track experience or like Chevy's PR stunt with the same car.

No, I don't mean that. First of all the Z28 was a manual transmission only car. Second of all it isn't as fast, nor is it set up to allow any bonehead to push a few buttons, drop the pedal to the floor and go full tilt. The Demon's being marketed with the Fast N Furious movie for a reason.

Let me illustrate my point to you with a real world example. You can choose to believe or not believe me...I won't judge, but this just really happened:

Outside my office sits a programmer named Amit. Amit has been hounding me every single day about which fast car to buy that comes with an automatic transmission. Amit doesn't know literally anything about car or how to drive for $*#@, but thinks he can be Vin Diesel if he has Hellcat. Amit already did his best impersonation in his Civic one day when we went out to lunch. Amit just watched the video with me and now is going to try and buy this.....God help us all.

Not a drag guy, but this car is really impressive. I can see why drag fans would go nuts on this car.
After seeing its performance stat, I thought 'Hennessy named Exorcist little too soon.'

Yeah, he almost killed us both that day we went out to lunch...never again lol.

I think the stats on the car are very impressive for a car that comes with a warranty, and especially think the cold air trick with the AC is cool. That'll be out in the aftermarket for all cars very soon I bet. The rest of it is comprised of things we already have access to. I'm not sure I heard them say that the HP was at the wheel though or crank. I don't remember hearing him say at the wheel and I think he would have. 730rwhp for an M6 = 840hp at the crank I believe. Our cars may also be lighter without any weight reduction - not sure on that. I don't know though...I still laugh when I see Hellcats since the first thing that I picture is this clown I work with. I find it a lot more satisfying to execute a build than walking in and buying a finished product. I already own 2012 Dodge Charger RT and am not impressed with it or the dealer experience at all.

It just cools the charge for the launch and while staging. It's not making power per say as much as it keeps you from losing any power. On SAE test stand I'm sure it was not heat soaked. Also the intake cooler cuts off on launch so that max power is available.

Cars that turn and brake better generally are safer for idiots. It's a completely different story for the Demon. This car is ridiculously powerful and able to use it. 0-100 in the time most "sports cars" take to get to 60. And with Dodge essentially publicly endorsing racing this thing on the street, I can see the media launching a crusade about it after the first couple of people are killed running 100 octane and skinnies on the street with it. Hopefully the limited production and price will keep it out of the hands of these idiots for awhile.

The A/C trick has been out in the aftermarket for awhile. I posted a link in this thread about one for a 5th gen ZL1. Dodge pretty much used all the best drag racing tricks/tweaks. But it really doesn't help anything but FI cars since they have the biggest issues with heat soak.

Dodge uses SAE ratings just like GM and Ford. If they said 840, it will be 840HP SAE on the engine dyno. And it's auto only, so there will be claims again about how it's "underrated" from the uneducated.

I had a feeling that was the case anyway (just because it's hennessy). I won't lie though, the Demon exceeded my expectation. It will make the Hennessy look foolish. It will make any street legal car from Ford or Chevy look foolish on the drag strip as well. If the drag strip is you thing, the hellcat was already the way to go from the factory. It may not have been enough of a difference for some people to worry about, but this Demon is leaps and bounds faster than anything else from the factory.

I was just telling someone this last night.
Just having some cash and good credit doesn't mean you can drive.
