Boost actuated cutout!

I was looking around for used LSx parts and stumbled across one of these being sold over on ls1tech.com. Looks pretty cool. Doesn't open until 6-7psi which would still provide some backpressure for the initial launch. Thoughts guys?

Kind of the same principal I was thinking about with my variable back pressure down pipe idea that I'm working on, except the valve goes inside the down pipe rather than venting to atmosphere.

For a cutout, it probably is a better idea to do this and retain back pressure down low for more low end torque/power then open it up, rather than just a cutout that's open all the time.

Looking forward to the dyno charts on that one Jason...

If you need an extra for testing (and I'm still running a 'stockish' setup) let me know! I've no issue installing and hitting the dyno for some hard numbers.

Would like to compare it to a straight up catless setup...

This is pretty damn cool, good idea! Would suck if it opened at that exact inopportune time though lol.. That would be my luck

When would be inopportune?

Like giving it a little shot and having an officer sitting just down a side street? Been there... hence the 'my luck' comment

How much of the exhaust actually go's out to the atmosphere? The loud valve name makes the most sense to me. It makes more noise, but I wonder how much actual flow goes out?

Turbos don't need backpressure.

The 6-7psi opening is useful because otherwise it would just be a loud cutout. These things are made to try to have something that has a streetable sound level and more power under full throttle/boost.

Here's one for the Evo X:

Make your own, get a wastegate and stuff it where you can.

A lot. I don't know of anyone that has ever exactly measured that. I know what we have picked up on cars with restrictive exhausts when the cutout/s were opened. Seen over 40whp on my own 02 Trans Am, but I had a stock catback on that car.

You're exactly right! I'll have to get with my R&D team on that idea! I will say that the placement on the English Racing piece has to be LOUD AF in the car when it's open. You never want to point the cutout straight down, as the sound waves reflect off the ground and right back into the cabin. On the same 02 Trans Am, that car was ear-splittingly loud with the cutout open and WOT applied! Louder than any car I've ever been in. Had to have the cutout relocated.

You can rotate it so it runs parallel to the ground. Note the v-band flange. I would definitely point it down the car length rather than the ground.

Very awesome. If you've read my other posts, you'd know I'm a BIG Evo fan! Must resist buying an ultra clean Evo9...
