Quality Hold

My car was scheduled to be produced the week of 3/27, however was produced the following Monday. No big deal.

My dealer called today to inform me my car had been selected for a “Quality Hold”.
He described the process as a random check to be sure all aspects of the assembly met the quality expectations of Chevrolet.

Any of you guys heard of this?I saw on the Corvette forum where this has happened to others, with varying delays in delivery.

Anyone have experience with this situation or am I just the lucky one?!

Happens more often than many suspect. Yes, it has happened to me. Figure about one in five builds are pulled for closer inspection. Depending on what is found the QC can add a few days minimum to the time it takes to be released for shipping. Given the current limitations on available haulers and rail autoracks the time in QC should pass quicker than the wait to be shipped.

Thanks for your experience!

I've read the car may arrive with 30-50 miles on it as a part of the quality check. Did yours arrive with additional miles?

Had the same thing happen to my 13, it arrived with 38 miles. I look at it as my car got more attention.

May be hard to believe but 24+ miles on the odo at time of retail delivery of a QC Hold build is frequently reported, especially in the Corvette forums. It might be because more SRE orders are or Corvettes than for all the rest of the Chevy car lineup, and that includes the Camaro.

The dealer just told me the car could be on quality hold for 1 more day, or 6 more weeks. They have no way of knowing, and Chevrolet doesn't tell them.

I'll need to be thinking about my path forward from here.....

Mine lasted about two weeks, I believe it was worth it. Car was perfect and very few issues.

A quality hold means one of two things. They found something desperately wrong and could not fix it on the assembly line and need to scrutinize the car more closely. Or they do random look see at the car just to check quality like they do on any manufacturing facility.

Either way, you will get a hand checked full inspection of your car and it could be better than most cars that come off.

Consider yourself lucky.

The cars paint, lines etc. we're perfect. Very few issues in 65,000 miles.

It's simply part of the process of manufacturing...they likely are required per their ISO/QS etc.

I was in the wire harness / electronic sub assy biz for 15 years. We did it, as did all our customers. Honestly, it helps keep the supply chain & all the assembly folks on their toes. They know where every part comes from (even if multi-sourced) and every person that touches the car.

Continuous improvement...wouldn't have bothered me a bit.

~~~~~~~~~~~
The destruction tests are the neatest to watch...I would just stand there and Black & Decker would take a leaf blower/bagger and suck up little rocks, nails and other stuff it wasn't meant for till it broke & then do the tear down. DeWALT would drop drills & other tools on concrete, asphalt, etc from measured heights, test them & drop them over and over till it died.
Not sure I could watch a ZL1 crash test without cringing, but I'm glad they do it.
