New member & owner of a 2017 Camaro SS; I need mechanical/tech advice

I am a new member and this is my first Thread. I am the proud owner of a 2017 Chevy Camaro 1SS. I have about 4,400 miles on the car since purchasing it at the end of September, 2016. My question is in regards to reading the oil % gage and when to schedule my first oil change (first 2 are covered under the warranty). The owner's manual says to wait until the car's indicator alerts you to schedule your first oil change. My current oil % reading is at 18% and I've noticed tho the car feels slightly more sluggish than it did 6 months ago, there has been no alert indicating the oil needs to be changed (I live in SoCal, hot temps, bad roads, heavy dust). At what % will it trip the oil maintenance alert on my car? Is it the same in a 2017 SS as it is in a 2016 SS? I'm tempted to bring it in as soon as possible because I have a lot of maintenance questions. Hopefully the majority of those questions can be answered by experienced owners and technicians here, who are well versed specifically in the Gen6. If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it. This is my first Camaro.
Thank You.

Not sure what percentage the oil change light triggers, but I know it will trigger at 1 year. There's nothing stopping you from taking it in now for an oil change. The dealer shouldn't have any problem changing it at 18%.

I get free oil changes for 2 years but I just hit 500 miles and Im going to change my oil tomorrow. I bought 11 quarts of synthetic and a AC Delco PF64 filter at Walmart. I know the dealer says to wait till the reading is near 0% but I've always changed mine every 3-5k miles with synthetic. Everyone has their own opinions on oil change intervals and break in methods. My girlfriends BMW went over 12k miles before the oil change light came on. I thought that was crazy but the dealer said its normal.

First, congrats on the new car and welcome to the forum.

I do not know what point of oil life the indicator trips to say "change oil". For my car though I will be taking it in for my second oil change when I get down to the 20-25% range just to err on the side of caution. Its a personal choice as you are still in warranty if you wait until you get the change message. My dealership doesn't care when I use the two freebies. I did the first one at 50%. Your driving conditions must be more harsh there than where I live. I have 4500 miles on the current oil and the indicator shows 40% life.

The dealer doesn't care when you get those two free oil changes. GM is paying for them. I got my first free one when my car had 1500 miles.

i recall my oil change light came on about 8%, and it will warn you every time you start the car, just like when you are low on gas.

Nothing to add o the oil but you are used to or getting used to your car accounts for some of the ague sluggishness.
