Spoke to local dealers service dept today

So, I bought my car out of state have had it for a month. Been reading about
oil changes and having it done sooner due to a new engine. Called the local dealer here,
feeling them out about servicing it and me buying it from somewhere else, said no problem.

I mention the fact that I was looking to get it done in the near future, I have like 700 miles on it,
I figured around 1000. His response was these aren't the old engines these are new, synthetic oil
should be good for awhile.

Being new to all things Camaro, just wanted some thoughts. About oil change engine break in.

Thanks

you certainly won't hurt anything changing your oil more often. I did my first oil change at 650 miles and again and 1000 miles.

500, 1500, 5000, and every 5k after that.

Too much? Yeah probably but easy and cheap insurance (and I do it myself).

I'd not try to convince anyone else that my way is best, but it is so there.

Good advice. I will follow it when mine is delivered

I changed mine at about 600mi. Have 1300 on it now. Will probably go to 2000-2500 before the next change then every 5000.

Technically if you change your own do you void the warranty?

No, as long as you have documentation that it was performed in accordance with the maintenance schedule.

Doesn't anybody READ the owners manual? If you did you would know that it instructs you to change the oil when the monitor reaches 40%. I know we have all been programed to a certain mileage, however this is a new era with new procedures and new technologies. That is why they print and provide us with these manuals. Not just to take up space in the glove box.

Going by mileage or based on usage (extreme conditions like track use) is going to trump a monitor every day of the week and twice on Sundays. I'll stick with a regimented service interval of 3-4k miles. Until a monitor starts doing real-time tests on viscosity and contamination, I won't trust it as far as I can throw it.
