Your dealer has the railcar number, but might not know it. It is included in the event history - my dealer sent me the following line from my history when mine was in transit:

Shipped / FROM - CHARLOTTE MI - RAIL-ETTX716647 - - TO - PHOENIX AZ / CN NORTH AMERICA

The "ETTX" number is the railcar, and the last piece (CN NORTH AMERICA) tells you which carrier it starts out on (it can change) - then you can look up their customer service number and they will tell you when the railcar is supposed to get to your destination.

You can continue to call the railroad, but sometimes it takes some time to get to a person who is able to tell you the current status - OnStar is better

OnStar will go into a sleep mode if the car hasn't been started in at least a week, and sometimes you have to tell it to search for the car several times before getting an accurate result. I was able to track mine all the way from Charlotte, MI to the Phoenix, AZ rail yard before it went to sleep waiting to get off the rail car - and it was just the next day when they started it to move it off the rail car and it reactivated.

Mine doesn't show any info or movement yet.
This tracking only works for the trucking company - useful if you are close enough to the plant for a truck delivery, but not helpful for the rail system. I believe that truck-only deliveries occur for dealerships within 600 miles of the plant, but everyone else has to hop on a train. They use the trucks to move the cars from the plant to the nearest rail yards, so everyone should see activity there at some point, but once you get to the rail yard you have to rely on the railroads or OnStar to get any updates.

Also, just general FYI - the railroad told me the eta was a Wednesday at about 11 a.m., but it actually arrived early Monday morning (that's the good kind of being wrong ) - but then it wasn't delivered to the dealer until Thursday. This wasn't really disappointing because I got it earlier than I expected based on a Wednesday arrival and 2-3 days for trucking to the dealer.

Good luck to everyone - the waiting seems endless, but you forget all about it once you get to drive the car home!

This truly works. I had the dealer email me my event history. Then I called CN North America and asked for the expected delivery date. That's when she verified that it would be delivered to Union Pcific in another city. From there it will be delivered to Houston, but I would need to get the delivery date of that rail car from them. Cover of be looking at a next week delivery date for sure.

Is there anyone in this group getting a car on the East Coast that has the OnStar activated that could give us an update?

I'm asking because my dealer won't activate my OnStar for liability reasons so I'm going to live vicariously through you guys.

Yeah… Our cars are probably sitting together. At least I assume so since we could be on the same railcar

I know I've been spoiled by Amazon Prime, but GM definitely seems to have a very different definition of "shipped" than the one I'm used to. Of course this is a slightly larger package than I'm used to. lol

Becky was saying in the order thread that the carriers wait for a full load before heading out, which makes sense. But you'd think between all the manufacturers out there and all the population over here, it'd take much less time than a week plus to get enough vehicles together to make a full load heading this way.

My car arrived in San Antonio this morning according to Union Pacific. Current status is waiting for unload. My OnStar should come back on soon.
