I checked on Thursday not open recalls on the webpage. Took the car in for the first oil change, tire rotation and to fix the passenger door trim(Window was replaced back in Oct). The 33110 recall has been needed on my car since Jan 17. So I'll let you know what happens when I get it back.

THANK YOU, PLEASE KEEP US INFORMED. AND IF WHATEVER WORK THEY DO FIXES ANY ISSUES YOU HAVE HAD.

MINE HAS BEEN "SLIPPING" AND HARD SHIFTING SOMETIMES.

Just got a call from the dealership, they did the software update. I haven't had any issues before I dropped it off on Friday. They ordered a replacement trim piece and I should have the car back tomorrow. So I'm driving a 2017 Elephant, I mean Acadia until then.

Got the car back, new oil(no issues at all with this), tires rotated, Passenger outside trim piece replaced and the software update. No issues on the drive home. Have a trip this weekend so will report back if I have any issues.

Went in for an oil change and the service agent informed me about this recall. He said they would need to order the parts then schedule another visit. A web search using my VIN showed nothing so I asked another agent and he provided a print out as follows:

Campaign # 33110 dated: 9/16/2016 status: open

Desc: When a commanded shift occurs outside of the expected transmission turbine speed window limits, the commanded shift monitor requests a driver defaulted 8th gear state. The torque associated with the default action results in broken turbine shaft. The calibration window (based on output speed) for the safety monitor (P16F3) is smaller than the calibration window for the driver initiated tap downshift speed limit checks.

Repair: Reprogram the transmission control module.

So, it sounds like there is a lot of dealer confusion. The reprogram should have been done today and should be all that is needed for vehicles that have not had a failure. Replacement parts and transmission removal should only be needed if the driver is having problems and the shaft has failed.

Guess I will have to call the dealer back to confirm this.
I thought that I would provide an update on this issue:

Went in for a normal oil change and they performed the TCM Reprogram without my requesting it.

My Chevrolet Service Work Receipt identified the work under the 'RECALL CAMPAIGN' section with this wording: Perform Recall 33110 8-Speed Transmission Turbine Shaft Failure. OPEN RECALL. Reprogrammed TCM. Program Code 18F53 Set Up FD8A6.

I did not have a noticeable problem with shifting prior to this work being done. Soon after picking up my V6 Camaro after this software update, the transmission seemed to shift less smoothly, but that smoothed out by the end of a day of driving and has been fine for the past couple of weeks.

Whether the terminology [recall or service bulletin/notice] is correct on this work, the dealerships seem to be instructed to automatically perform this update.
