Lol mine will make noise with any type of tires on it, it's amazing the excuses dealers use or make up in hopes you will just except it and go away and live with the problems

Funny

It’s funny how GM customer care people will come on the forum to offer help for some people when they post but on the rear end issue, that so many have complained about, they remain silent.

They won't even respond to PM's at this point either - CRICKETS....... I would suggest everyone who has the problem or had the problem to file a report on nhtsa https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/Vehicl...697.1490270584

That's because they are still scratching their heads and going bald at the same time. I don't get it still, this thread goes on all year and GM responds only to minor crap like " a added layer of support junk" on other threads. My car makes that shit noise every time i go out in the cold and make turns. Yesterday was in the 30's iand i drove for a bit to run some errands and when i made the turn towards my house the noise was still kicking live and loud to remind me before i put her in the garage LOL

I took mine in about a month ago for three things: passenger side seat not reclining, squeak from the engine compartment, and the rear end noise that everyone else is talking about. While the squeak and seat were fixed, they said they couldn't find the noise so they just replaced the fluid. Fast forward a couple weeks, and even in relatively warm weather (~65*) the car was making a noise exponentially worse than before, and the diff acted differently on both wheels when turning. I took it in again last week, and they said the entire differential assembly was bad. They are ordering a new one which will take about a week, and then three days to replace.

From GM, they said that it was fine to drive until the part came in and they would provide a loaner until it was done. I guess I'm lucky concerning that. But everyone should be proactive with this issue.

Two rear differentials replaced already in 9k miles. I was asked if I'm beating on it, lmfao. 7/32 of tread wear still on all tires, bone stock, so GM you're not blaming me no matter how much you try. You have a $hi@ differential no doubt. I hope you're still trolling this site and that "added layer of support" vanished quickly.

Sadly I took my Camaro in today for an oil change at 3,000 miles and what I thought a rear differential fluid replaced. I had a different 2016 Camaro that did exactly what has been stated. I told the service department I was trying to keep it from happening to my new one. They refused and said I would have to pay for it. I told them I wasn't going to pay for it and it will be their problem when the differential starts grinding

Well I was just told that the differential assembly was on national backorder and they have no idea when the part would come in. So now do I drive it with the sound of crunching glass when I turn or drive my beater cobalt SS until she is ready...

my diff hasn't made any groan sounds (12k miles, san diego area) but instead my diff appears to be completely locked up on first couple turns... tires scuffing, etc.

It seems that some diffs ARE able to "differentiate" when cold, and you are hearing the clutches groaning. is it really a big deal?

Not a big deal anymore to me as i had mine drained and filled twice with no luck getting rid of the tire sounding locking up groan noise your talking about. Same with some people who had the whole diff replaced and the noise came back... Now i just deal with the crappy sound for the first 10 hard turns or so as i don't want the dealer messing with my car anymore unless 100% necessary and covered after seeing so many horror stories on dealer negligence. Once the warm weather gets better here the noise will go away and come back to haunt me in the winter again

I had a Pontiac solstice that made the same sound when the car came out. Sadly in my opinion it's going to fail. I am surprised GM doesn't care about it and the fact the visibility from the fogging of the front windshield doesn't concern them. There will be an accident soon

Had the fluid changed February 1, groan and what sounds like the differential locking up has returned.

I dropped my 9000 mile 1SS off at the dealership so they could listen to the rear end whine at higher speeds. They said my issue was a bearing. We will see. I have a feeling its not a bearing. Well it could be, but I bet it still the rear diff.
