My paint got tested....

I drove back to Vegas from LA this last Thursday, with high winds and dust storms from where the 210 connects with I-15 all the way to Vegas. At times the dust was so thick we came to a complete stop with our hazards flashing.

This is at the CA-NV line - check out the palm trees....
. Many semi-trailers blown over.

Then it started to rain, and with so much dust in the air, the rain drops picked up dust and were basically mud balls when they hit the car:

I really thought I had paint damage, but I had put two coats of Cquartz 3 weeks ago. I hosed it off, then used "waterless" wash and it came out fine.

I have driven that route hundreds of times in all kinds of weather, but have never driven through 170 miles of dust storms...

check your air filter and blow it out if you did not already do that

Hit a similar storm in New Mexico back in 2011 in a new VW GTI. REALLY screwed up my paint and the windshield. I was in the middle of nowhere...no place to hide.

We see similar high wind situations here in MT , but don't have the sand to really damage your paint.

I have a buddy living in Vegas and he mentioned the dust storm that came through. I'm glad your paint turned out fine. Your filter should definitely be checked.

This would be a good time to NOT be running a K&N or any oiled cloth filter.

Yeah, blew off my air filter earlier. Today I took the time to go over in more detail, and I found a couple of paint chips in the front, but it looks like only the clear chipped.

What I did find is a dozen or so tiny chips in the windshield....

Oh well, it's definitely a used car now!

Well, I was wrong about the windshield

Found about fifty tiny chips. I remember hearing the pea size gravel hit, but never thought it was chipping the glass.

Just thankful my paint survived....

I was in Vegas last Thursday and yes, the dust storm was very bad.
Sun beds flew all over the place, it was crazy.
Glad it didn't damage your Camaro.
