Dual mode exhaust cannot be added, Correct?
I wanted to confirm that if the camaro doesnt come with dual mode you cannot add it on.
1-So, let's say the car comes with dual tips in the back, how hard is it to add quad tips with after market exhaust? Cost? 2-So the only difference then would be you will always have the louder setting, not the dual mode, correct? 3- What's the popular exhaust people go with? Borla? MBRP...? |

Anything can be added with enough money. It would be cost prohibitive to do so.

The SIMPLE answer is NO!!! Corsa or Borla seem to be popular choices.

It wouldn't be cost effective to add it.
#1, easy mod. Cost depends on your ability and how much of the existing system you want to replace, I.E. just tips, mufflers, or full headers all the way back. #2, yes #3, many choices, personal taste |

There are so many cars out there you ought to be able to find one with dual mode exhaust if that is what you really want.

You can find the dual mode exhaust no problem, the problem is getting the coding done to activate it. It's unlikely any dealer would do it and I haven't seen a tuner that can do it.

To have a dual mode exhaust, you'd probably need all the electronics that go with it as well as either finding somebody technical enough to get it recognized by the head unit so you could control it in the settings or else possibly even need to swap the head unit entirely. Because of how tightly integrated it is with the car, you'd be paying 10x what it would have cost to just add it to the build sheet at the time of ordering. All aftermarket dual mode exhaust systems, like the one Borla makes, also ride off the same controllers that the stock dual mode exhaust uses.
Ie: If you didn't order it this way, you can't make it this way in retrospect. Sort of like trying to swap an automatic transmission for a manual. Much cheaper just to trade it in. Maybe one day somebody will create an aftermarket solution, but a one-off solution will be expensive as hell. Even for basic IC board development, you need to sell a lot of volume to offset the R&D costs. |

I believe the pig tail is there (where the NPP would be on the valves) but that's not the problem. The problem lies in with the electronics as you can control with different modes ect. again, its more coding and I'm not sure how much that would cost to all h ave done. I would suggest at this point, if the car didn't come with it, is to ad a Borla or something like that.

There are aftermarket systems that you can get that will do the same thing it just won't be tied into the drive mode selector / infotainment system.

You would think vendors would at least give you a setup where you could use the garage door opener button manually to open or close a non NPP Camaro with an atermarket NPP catback. I bet that would not cost a bundle. NPP on any car. Its not rocket science and I like that setup. I had it before on my 5th gens, but they had NPP.

In this case though it still is a no, the NPP exhaust is controlled by the BCM. A non-NPP doesn't have the programming in the BCM to control the NPP system. So yes while you can add all the hard parts you will never be able to get around the programming issue that needs to be addressed in the BCM as GM will not reflash a non-NPP BCM with any other calibration than what is on file for the VIN that BCM is tied to.

There's no reason that an after-the-fact NPP exhaust needs to be 100% identical to the factory's version. No need to involve a computer at all here.
Why would it be so hard to add all the parts that actuate the valves in the mufflers and leave the actuation as simple as a switch added somewhere within easy reach? You'd even be able to have quiet start-ups, for those who need to leave home at times when most people are sleeping or who live in areas where the neighbors are unusually sensitive/picky about such things. Be a hotrodder and think just a little outside the OE box. Norm
