TPMS question for a 2010 SS
I just purchased a set of 4 OEM wheels and tires from an ex-Camaro owner that had a 2012. I had the wheels and tires put on my 2010. After driving a few miles today the car is saying the system needs to be looked at. I took the car to the tire shop that installed them. They couldn't get their tool to find the sensors. I attempted to do the reset myself with the car but it wasn't recognizing that I let out any air. I'm going to attempt it again but I'm wondering. Are the TPMS sensors for a 2012 different/incompatible with my 2010?
I tried searching this forum and it seemed like a pretty confusing topic as it seemed lots of people have had issues with this stupid things. Anyway I'm just curious if I'll need to buy new sensors or maybe a tool will help? Thanks! Btw I bought these as my summer tires were gone and I still had the snow tires on and needed a new set. Figured this was going to be painless to get a second set of the OEM rims that I like. Guess not.

Are you sure the new wheels have sensors installed? If the tool can't find them and the onboard system can't find them they might not even be there. You might need to buy a new set on eBay. They don't cost that much if you shop a bit.

Well the guy I bought them from claims the tires were installed on the wheels by a dealership so I would've assumed they put the sensors on them if they weren't already there.
I've thought about buying my own tool. I guess there's no real way of seeing if they're there without taking the tire off. Are there any trustworthy eBay sellers that sell the sensors for our cars for a decent price? Thanks for the replies.

I have doubts they are there and if they are there, they may be non functional. New ones are not that expensive on eBay at $55 or so for a full set delivered.
Search on eBay for item number 152480687087 . These are the same ones I bought for my 2010 and they are working fine. My seller did not have any listed but they look to be the same part number I am using. Should not need a tool to pair them to a 2010. |

So I took it to another tire shop and they don't detect any sensors either. And they won't install any sensors other than what I buy via them. Ugh. This is frustrating.
I'll call around and see if any other shop will install some.

So part # 13598772 replaced what the Chevy dealership says should be part 13581558?
I just want to make sure before I buy these. I have a shop willing to install them for me. Thanks for all the help.

There are a lot of different part numbers that will work. I bought a set on eBay for 55 shipped. If the seller on eBay has them listed for your car then they will work.
I have only used the tool to learn sensors but on some wheel/tire combos it is harder to pick it up. Sometimes you have to hold the tool over the wheel not the tire or the other way.

Not like the car won't function without them. Take your time....find what you need and get it done.
