Mr Al

the dealer wont use the pinch welds, they are too close to the rocker panel. Most of the 4 post lifts use a pad system, those pads can reach and spread the load out correctly over the front subframe location just fine.

+1, far less stress on the frame when it's being lifted up on 4 points evenly. the dealer does need to use pads to properly clear the rockers. at least 2 members on here have had rockers replaced due to lift damage.

What are those 4 frame/subframe areas that they would use for the 4 points? I still have not seen any information on what those might be.

Thanks

anger: To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed and strap the vehicle to the hoist.

Danger: To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death, always use the jackstands to support the vehicle when lifting the vehicle with a jack.

Caution: Perform the following steps before beginning any vehicle lifting or jacking procedure:

· Remove or secure all of the vehicle contents in order to avoid any shifting or any movement that may occur during the vehicle lifting or jacking procedure.

· The lifting equipment or the jacking equipment weight rating must meet or exceed the weight of the vehicle and any vehicle contents.

· The lifting equipment or the jacking equipment must meet the operational standards of the lifting equipment or jacking equipment manufacturer.

· Perform the vehicle lifting or jacking procedure on a clean, hard, dry, level surface.

· Perform the vehicle lifting or jacking procedure only at the identified lift points. DO NOT allow the lifting equipment or jacking equipment to contact any other vehicle components.

Failure to perform the previous steps could result in damage to the lifting equipment or the jacking equipment, the vehicle, and/or the vehicle contents.
Vehicle Lifting– Frame Contact Lift

Note: The vehicle should be lifted so that the hoist pads and or lift arms do not contact the rocker panel molding. The hoist pad must be located in the designated area. In the front location, place the lift pads on the rocker outer panel weld flange. In the rear location, place the lift pads on the rocker outer panel rear cradle brace. Care should be taken to ensure the hoist pad is inside the rocker panel molding cut out area (notch) to prevent damage to the vehicle.

Front Lift Pads

When lifting the vehicle with a frame-contact lift, place the front lift pads on the rocker outer panel weld flange (1), as shown

Rear Lift Pads

When lifting the vehicle with a frame-contact lift, place the rear lift pads on the rocker outer panel weld flange (2), as shown.

Vehicle Jacking

Caution: When you are jacking the vehicle at the front locations, be certain that the jack or the jack lift pad does not contact the front fascia, front fascia air dam, or the front fenders. If such contact occurs, vehicle damage may result. When jacking at selected front locations additional clearance may be required for the jacking points.

Note: When you are lifting a vehicle with a service jack, block the wheels at the opposite end from which you are lifting. Use jack stands to provide additional support.

Front of Vehicle

When using a service jack under the front of the vehicle use one of the following locations:

Place the service jack pad in the same location as shown for the front lift pads or on the front center jack pad.

Rear of Vehicle

Note: Place jackstands ONLY under strong and stable vehicle structures.

Place the service jack pad in the same location as shown for the rear lift pads.

I never really felt comfortable using a standard jack stands (Y shape) with the metal ZL1 addons Lift points because:
  • I would like to stick to the GM's recommended jacking points
  • I also find jacking from one side then the other is the safest method of jacking any car since the weight transfer is not on the rolling direction (forward or reverse)
  • Since the gap between the pinch welds and the bottom of the rocker panel is very big it's very easy to damage the rocker panel ( I slightly bent the rocker panel even when I was really careful with the jacking pucks)

I ended up getting these high quality ESCO 6,000lbs jack stands since it looks a lot sturdier than those other standard type jack stands I tried in the past, they're light and with the rubber pad on the top it's a great way to use the ZL1addons lift point and not worrying about breaking/damaging the rocker panels and possibility of the slippage (metal to metal vs metal to rubber)..

See the below pictures for details:

They also take much less space.. pay attention to that triangle shape feet and the welds I think I can confidently jack the car and not to worry about slipping anything..

Jacking with Mag pad with Mag Puck (ZL1addons) in the middle pinch weld opening

then place the jack stands right under the Lift Points (also made by ZL1Addons)
This is rear : (notice how the lift points sit on the rubber pad on the jack stands, they're completely covered and centered which makes it easier to jack on the opposite side to put all 4 lift points on the jackstands )

and front

front from another angle

now I can go to the other side since one side is on jack stands (rear and front lift points) and repeat the same steps to put all 4 of them on the jack stands

Just for the added safety when I need to go under the car (for diff and tranny fluid change) I can use the second jack on the third/middle lift point but leave barely touching with the rubber jacking pucks (Amazon) so it wouldn't affect the balance of the other to but would be there for if all else fails

For simple bleed job, pad/rotor change (or anything that doesn't require me to go under the car) I will simply leave it on the jack stands

It's almost not touching

Voila!

ZL1addon pinch weld adapter is for floor jack use, with jack stands you need the new bolt ons.

i bought the bolt-ons, and i'm unsure how much i like them right now.

the body on both sides of the pinch weld is uneven, so there is a gap which is not addressed. it looks like it could cause the bolt on point to slip.

I tried regular jack pucks but I still find the bolt-ons the best method at the moment for both lift and jack stand use . I re-tightened them after the first use as suggested.

Since it's all vertical forces that's playing any role here when you put it on jackstand so should be fine.

Sounds like a better idea than my "gorilla tape" over each puck

Does anyone know the lift points for a 2017 SS Convertible? Seems the Generation 6 mag pad won't work with the convertible!

I bought 2 sets of ZL1 Addons jack pads (8 total) and installed 4 on the jack stand points and 2 more on the recommended factory floor jack points. All points are along the pinch welds and it worked out great.

I went to Harbor Freight and got their low profile racing jack made by Pittsburgh and 4 jack stand rubber pads to grip the ZL1 Addons jack pads. I would recommend the rubber pads to anyone using this ZL1 Addons product.

https://www.harborfreight.com/rubber...-pc-63373.html

I was anxious about lifting this car for the first time but the 6 jack pads is my #1 method now. The chassis of my 1le is so stiff I actually lifted both the front and back of the car at the floor jack point at the same time. Didn't have to touch the mount point near the rear diff.
