scroll down to the skidpad and slalom numbers with and without the GT 'performance package', which is close to 3K
https://www.edmunds.com/ford/mustang...the-money.html

and by the way edmunds tested a LT Camaro last year with 'all season' tire that put up .88g on the skidpad, so the 'base' GT actually handles worse than a base Camaro.

Really up until the 6th gen that was true. People aren't used to a Camaro costing $40k+ no matter how the dice are rolled.

It's probably the worst case of sticker shock ever. In 2002 you could get a loaded Z28 with the SS package for $25k. The base 3800 still started in the high teens. Heck I'm 39 and remember seeing an IROC in a showroom with a ton of options on the sticker and the price was $18k. That wasn't very long ago. People still remember. It's hard to convince them otherwise. I know the car is vastly improved so much so it would take an hour to go through how much better a 6th gen is over a 4th gen. Not even near comparable cars. You know that as well.

But many people still assimilate the Camaro nameplate as the car the working class guy could buy for a fun drive and awesome power. I think GM might need to do a better job at showing people what the 6th gen is about and why it's so superior to any Camaro ever made before.
I think this is the root of the problem right here, a lot of people don't know what they are actually getting for that price so they run. Personally I don't want the Camaro to be know as the "working man's sports car", I want it be know as "The best domestic sports car" you can buy! And like someone else mentioned if Chevy could step up their marketing game it could drastically help.

I have a "unique" camaro in my eyes, I know unique is a bit of a relative term so take that as you will, I love seeing other camaros around but if I see another 1LE that is customized just like mine yes I would be a little irritated, but the chances of that are slim to none. I should have elaborated more in that post.

Ok so $34k today as adjusted for inflation is a number most working class people can afford for a new car today. And in a lot of people's minds, that should be the sticker price for a fully loaded 2SS. With nav, moonroof, MRC. They can't fathom why it would be close to $50k for that.

I don't want the Camaro to be the working man's car either. Car and Driver put a 2SS up against a $70k BMW M3 and the Camaro edged it out. That's what I love to see. In the old days no one would EVER consider comparing any Camaro to any BMW.

More people need to see that. They can certainly go with the 1SS but then they see the 1SS at $37k has cloth seats, no Homelink, no auto dimming rear view mirror, and only single zone climate control and wonder why cars half that price have all of those features with dual zone climate.

And Motor Trend put a 2SS (pretty loaded at $48k as tested) up against an M4 with the Competition pack (Freakin $88k as tested) and they were objectively basically identical so it came down to a subjective decision and both hosts VASTLY preferred the Camaro in pretty much every way! Why don't more people watch these things?!?!? Just do some research and you will see just how amazing these cars are!

I think at least part of the slow Camaro sales is unfortunately the byproduct of Chevy being in the midst of one of their weakest ad campaigns in years. They are shoveling all sorts of money into their painfully bad their "focus group" ads, including that one where they use some sort of car elevator thing to show Camaro for about all of 3 seconds. Just make a f***ing spot where you focus on the car itself. Show somebody tearing ass through the mountains. That stuff sells even if it seems cliche.
Can't be any worse than Cadillac's ads....(look at their sales)....

Daring to use a sewing machine, and playing with dolls, not to mention leaping through the air, leads you to Cadillac....

You just hit on the 2nd part, but it's the not SS that's really struggling with that...it's the 1LT cars and 2LTs which still need several more thousands in options to be "loaded" in most people's mindsets. Like who's going to pay $30K for a turbo 4 or V6 with none of those features. Not many in the Camaro's market.

The first problem is the best domestic sports car you can buy is the Corvette LOL Camaro's aren't sports cars lol(Sports car = 2 seater) but thats a debate for another day.

As SuperSound mentioned it is the packaging on the lower trim cars that is a problem. Someone correct me if I am wrong but I just built 2 comparable vehicles.

17 Camaro 2LT, and an Ecoboost Premium. Both automatics, both with 20" wheels and some of the techy type options to try and make them as equally equipped as possible. Memory seats, heated/cooled interior lighting, and similar safety features (this is where one might have slighty more but based on packages it was only way to get them close)

Mustang MSRP 35380
Camaro MSRP 39140

I complained about those commercials a year ago on here. There is seriously a commercial where they have a Malibu and some woman says it looks like a Lexus, completely cringeworthy.

Like the people who don't believe their Lexus is actually the same as a Toyota? What do you expect from the general public.
