I stood there like o.0 for about 3 mins staring at him.

Sorry until I get my Camaro all I can share is my Ford horror stories.
Stangs are people too (I loved my s550), but yeah I was not confident in the dealer in the area either haha!

The service advisor called me this evening asking me to come in tomorrow to talk to the mechanic who is doing the repair. Sounds like they already have it all torn down, he just wants to go over with me everything they're going to repair/replace. He wouldn't give me too many specifics over the phone, but did mention a lot of things were going to be replaced new and that there was a good bit of oil in my air intake that they're going to have to replace as well.

The transmission acting funny is a little worrying to me too so I'll be asking about that. Right now they have me in a fully loaded Chevy Cruze loaner, nice to have a car that runs, but definitely missing my Camaro.

After they changed the oil I drove it a mile down the road back to work, light stop and go traffic, no issues. It then sat in the parking lot for 7 hours before I left to go home, and wasn't until I got on the highway home and hit higher RPMs that the incident occurred.

Best of luck OP. You might need all of it and a lawyer.
Been there done all that.

Never made such a "mistake"

Incompetence.

BBB Autoline if they don't fix it right. No lawyers fees, and effective.

well to the OP good luck. Pretty much everything was new in the engine before they broke it. 3k miles is hardly broken in.

I imagine they will have it for a while.

To everyone else.. will this show up on his carfax report?

It sounds like dealership service is still unsatisfactory in many cases. My dealership, on the other hand, are highly qualified and motivated to provide top notch service for my cars. I even take my Ford Edge to them for service...lol. However, no matter how good you think your dealership is, the prudent performance car owner will double check every service visit. GM should give you a great trade-in on a brand new Camaro...period!

I'm sticking to my whipped oil went through the PCV valve and got sucked into the intake theory... for now. That behavior would explain the black smoke, would definitely throw a CEL, and also fits the "higher rpm's" aspect of the story.

I'm a small fleet owner. On our diesel trucks, which all take various amounts of oil, we have decals made that state the capacity and put them right where they can't be missed. Hate to think you would have to go take those same measures for a dealership but obviously some of the folks in the oil and lube area aren't really mechanics.

Nailed it. Just got back from the dealership. When I got there they had the intake all taken apart. Said the engine itself is fine. They're cleaning oil out of the intake manifold and box, cleaning out the PCV, and replacing some other parts. When I asked about the transmission hesitating the mechanic said it was likely oil on the airflow sensor throwing it off. Said he's also going to treat the system with sea foam to burn out any excess oil.

Definitely recommend you ask the dealer for a printout of the cause of the problem (them), and the repair steps they took (if they don't already give you one)...save this for your records in case anything happens down the line...

I would trade this car or unload it. You can clean one up and make it seem normal but the true outcome of possible damage may not be known for some time. I would not want to be the owner when that happens.

It may not be worth the effort, or loss...

If he has documentation of this situation, and that the dealer repaired their mistake...they will be on the hook for any issues down the road. Sounds like there may not be any, though...clean everything out, replace the MAF...inspect the plugs, injectors, valves, and cats...

You contradicted your own point. The time and effort of dealing with future problems with very expensive items like cats, injectors etc. Cat may be fine now but what about a year from now? And document this all you want, you may still have to lawyer up to get them to pay up. And the dealer may claim any problem that crops up down the road is not related to the oil change.

Trade it.
