ZL1 tires

I know these are summer tires and on the 5th gen there was a service bulletin about storing and driving in cold temps.
Does the new Goodyear tire have the same cold temp issues? Picked my car up yesterday and wanted to drive to work, but it's 20 degrees now with a high of 32. I decided to see what you guys are doing with driving and cold temps.
Thanks!

They sure do. The recommendation is to not drive under 40 degrees. The manual says that traction can be adversely affected. Before 30 and damage could also cut to the tires (cracking). Some on here have commented that they've driven in <40 for short distances. I don't take mine out under 40. If you want to consistently, I'd consider getting another set of tires.

Normally I don't drive my car until mid April, but since it's here and new, I want to drive it pretty bad! Feel like a kid on Christmas! Tomorrow has a high of 40 degrees. Probably gonna go for it tomorrow. Won't be doing aggressive driving anyways, just cruising.

The colder the tires, the worse the traction.

To me, Michelin are the best tires in the world. Sport Cup's are the best around but they wear out fast and have no warranty. But who cares, they provide enjoyment.

My concern is the cracking of the tires like the previous gen had. Cold tires on cold pavement, I understand that part. I'll use the right foot mod to offset that part.

I hear you. Mine was at the dealer and the weather was hovering around 38 degrees. Just be extra cautious in cold conditions. The car has so much power and torque that it will break loose in a heartbeat. Luckily the TC/SC is awesome on this car, but still not worth taking chances. Be careful and have fun! Plenty of warm days coming.

I have driven my 1LE plenty of times when it was 30° with 0 issues. Drive like a normal adult and you will be fine, drive like a hooligan and sure you could have some issues.

I try to stretch out the summer tire season as long as safely possible...

The downside is that towards the end of October, into November around here...evening temps can dip into the 30s. And occasionally it rains. I have driven in the rain when it was 36º...with the Goodyear tires...not a regular occurrence, but you've gotta do, what you've gotta do!

Like you said - drive like you know what you're driving, and you're fine. Don't?...well.....

I'm about 30 minutes from where you live OP and was considering taking my car out, but decided against it, while on a main road I noticed that behind cars were white clouds...salt dust...That all gets on your frame, suspension, and every other nick and cranny down there.

I can't trust the Mitten before May usually :(

I've driven mine in the mid 30s. Traction is definitely reduced at those temps, but there's so much to start with, you'll be fine. Now wet roads in that temp may be a different story. Not driven on any wet roads yet. There's so little tread, I'm not sure there'd be much traction on a warm day in the rain. Just don't get it out below 20. That's the temp the manual warns of tire damage.

It's the tire damage or cracking I'm worried about. I'm driving like granny since I'm only at 30 miles.

Remember the tires spin easy when cold but they also slide easier when trying to stop.

I personally think the cracking issue is a little over hyped. I'm sure doing burn outs or hard launches and stops when outside temps are below 20 degrees greatly increases the chances of cracking the rubber. However, the risk goes down exponentially under normal driving. You figure these cars sit on dealer lots in all sorts of weather and are moved around the lot on a regular basis. With that said, I won't drive my car when the outside temps are below 35. Roads also have to be clean (aka no salt) and preferably dry. I have driven my car on damp roads with temps in the upper 30s and the back end will slide out from you if you get a bit aggressive with the throttle.
