91 vs 93 octane
I have a feeling this has been hashed to death, but I did a search and couldn't find anything.
Very difficult to find 93 Octane out here in West Texas. What kind of harm am I doing using 91? I've actually been a little worried about going WOT with the 91 in it so far...

You'll be fine
Some stations have 93, but sometimes you can't find it. 91 is still "premium" as far as Octane is concerned.

On the engine sub forum, they claim the engine is tuned very close to the line (aggressive) timing wise for 93. But, yes, it'll adjust for 91.

You only do harm if the engine manages to knock. If it does knock, that will be detected by the knock sensor, and the engine control module will retard spark timing. This will happen so fast you probably won't notice it.
Driving on 91 may mean you never realize 100% of engine power, but it is probably good enough to get you to 99.9%. You would probably need controlled conditions to measure any difference. The engine geometry and fuel maps are optimized for 93 and that will give best power and fuel economy, but you are close enough. 92 is what I have here at most stations in south Jersey. |

Does the manual say 93 or does it say premium? Premium in most states is 91. I know Ford specifically says 93 to get most hp.

The Camaro SS and the Corvette calibrations are based on 93 octane for their rating from what some of the GM engineers have told some members. 91 octane will work and wont cause any issues, might see a little bit of knock but not enough that you would ever notice.

Just looked up the manual for the SS, and it recommends premium 91 or higher. So its not specific to 93 like the Mustang.

You can find 93 around here, but most places only have 91. 91 will not cause any issues. Straight out of my 2017 owners manual:

Would 91 non-ethanol be better to use than 93 with 10% ethanol?

I guess 91 100% gasoline would be better for the engine, while the 93 10% ethanol would be better performance-wise.
