Could not be happier. I want nothing else from Chevrolet as they have stood behind this car as promised. My goal - the most tracked '17 SS 1LE in existence. Time to start signing up for track days again!!!!

Do you plan to use an oil weight other than 5W30 for the new engine?

Congrats, great news. Please do what you can to get more info from them as it becomes available so we can get an idea of the exact failure if they figure it out. Thanks!

I did ask again what specifically failed - he does not know other than some part failure related to piston #3. Maybe GM will figure it out when they get the motor back?

Glad it all worked out for you!

As for oil, I will continue to make sure the HP Supplement is followed to the letter. I am going to bring in the Motul 8100 X-Clean 5w-40 desox2 as approved by GM. My dealer installed an approved oil for track but I am going this route with the new motor.

That being said - I do not think oil had one thing to do with it.

I think everyone is in agreement with you that oil was not the issue here. My point in bringing it up in the first place was more so to point out that in my opinion I would never trust that a dealer knows exactly what they are supposed to do to your car without questioning them extensively. Yes in theory if you bring them the car for "track prep" and they do it incorrectly its on them, and likely you will not be faulted by GM for it, you would theoritically still be out your car for awhile and have to deal with this nonsense.

I just think that taking an extra step of precaution and basically approaching dealer service departments as if they were 5 year old children and asking / confirming every step of the way with everything that is done to your car to ensure it gets done 100% correctly the first time is something that might be worth doing in the long run.

Again, I'm not saying your case had anything to do with anyones negligence and it was most certainly just a faulty part from the factory, but that being said I think the above mentality is just a good one to have from a general standpoint. I had to go through like 5 dealers before I found one that even knew anything about the recommended "track prep" oil change, and every other one still would have done the service if I had brought it but just put mobil1 in the car.

I've been holding my breath since your original post. I was at Sebring the same weekend you were running at COTA, so I was VERY interested in your ordeal.

So happy Chevy is sticking to their commitment about on-track failures.

As for your oil comment, I heartily agree. I have been in a back and forth with many users here about this exact issue. I switched to the Motul X-Clean for the same reason. I want to give GM no room to argue I didn't follow the manual to the letter.

Congrats. I'd love to see some of your videos from COTA sometime. That track is on my 'bucket list'.

Matt
