First oil change. Anything I should avoid?
I just reached the 1500 mile mark on my 17 1SS and I'm planning on changing the oil sometime this week. My question is are there any particular brands that have yielded consistent poor results? I know this pretty comes down to personal preference but I have never owned a car with an engine of this caliber and I figured Id check on here for any consistent bad results. I used valvoline on my 2015 LFX and I did notice some knock. Im thinking mobil 1 this go around. One more thing. What are your opinions on the lucas oil additive? I met this little old lady at the parts store and she swears by it. Im thinking about trying it. I don't really remember the specific product but its a lucas oil additive for new engines that is supposed to stick on to various components inside the engine to eliminate dry starts. Sorry ahead of time for ANOTHER first time oil change post lol

Go quality full synthetic.
Personally, I wouldn't do Mobil 1...there are better choices that work better with DI engines. I would recommend either Pennzoil Ultra Platinum or Amsoil...they preformed best in my Blackstone tests I've done in the past on multiple cars. |

I posted it in the other thread, grab the penzzoil platinum 5W30 jugs from local walmart and AC Delco PF64 from Amazon. Total oil change DIY cost $30 after rebates.

I was thinking Mobil 1 because I thought that's what the dealerships were using. I think I read that somewhere on this site. It's already on order so I'll use that this go around and if everything goes well I'll stick with it. If not w3ll I'll try out the Pennzoil. Anything on additives? So the manual says not to use any?

In all honestly, either...they both performed so closely. The Pennzoil is a little cheaper...and sometimes Amazon has good deals. That is what I will be swapping to on my first change.

Are you concerned about warranty issues doing your own oil changes. I have been changing my own oil for 32 years and can't stand to have somebody change my oil. With all of the BS warranty denials i am concerned about GM trying to deny my warranty for any reason. Thanks for your reply!

Many of us change our own oil. Keep the receipts and you'll be fine. You can read far too much here, and get paranoid. |

I was calling around to locate Penzoil Ultra Platinum and ended up talking to a woman that use to be a service advisor at a Chevy dealer. She asked me if my car was under warranty, and i said yes. She proceeds to tell me to take it to the dealer because they will try to void my warranty for any reason. She tells me about a technician that noted a customer installed oil filter was "slightly" too tight and they denied the warranty claim. Your right, the paranoia is everywhere nowadays. Thank You for the advice!
