Why I un-canceled my canceled ZL1 Order

I was lucky enough to find an allocation and ordered my Hyper Blue ZL1 with A10, no sunroof, etc... and I ordered in December.

I canceled when two things happened at once. First the ZL1 1LE was announced and I finally got a TWP for 3/27. The 3/27 date with shipping, suspension adjustments, Xpel and break in would mean I would not be race ready for the season start. I canceled my order to take time to reevaluate my options. I will cover those options separately.

Option 1) Get a more discounted M6 ZL1 car down south... some advertised at $10K off.

Pro's.
Available now. Unlike others, I am not religious about either the M6 or A10. They both are attractive to me for different reasons. The M6 would be more engaging.

Cons.
I was finding the advertised prices were not the real prices. I had to be a farmer, with a Ford lease, and have three eyes. The real prices were much higher and the discount that I would get would be eaten up by flights, and/or shipping.

Also most of the cars had sunroofs which are great for some, but with my helmet, I hit my head on the roof... not ideal.

Most were white which again is not a bad color, but not one of my colors.

While Nav is not a deal breaker, most of the Miami and Texas cars were relatively stripped.

No Miami car for me.

So Mr. Upton is happy now?

Good move IMO - we don't even know the pricing of the ZL1 1LE, and it may be much harder to get - we just don't know.

Option 2) Get an A10 now coming up on Cars.com and Autotrader.

Pro's. Advertise good discounts and show cars that will be available. Some have good option lists.

Con's. Called those with big discounts showing. They all said the cars are already sold. They tried to get me to sign up for a new order. Seems like a common tactic. I am relatively new to this, but I don't understand. Many are advertising cars that have been spoken for.

No ZL1 A10 in Stock or coming soon for me this way!

Yep I know the feeling. Sounds like you really enjoy racing and if the new 1LE loaded starts at 66k as they are saying I would imagine it would be the best route to go. Of course that means you miss the start of race season by a bit, but it's highly likely that no one will have a car as unique and capable as yours. I am imagining PDR is a must for you although I didn't see it mentioned.

3) Wait for the ZL1 ILE
Pro's. Better track car. Potentially fast times. No need to change wheels as I was planning for my previously ordered car for more aggressive rubber.

Con's:
Miss out on the "Triple Threat". I have spent a lot of time in cars with coil overs and noses that scrape every pebble on the ground. My fast car was slower than my Touareg on real streets where I had to almost come to a stop for every pot hole. I thought the ZL1 without the 1LE package would ultimately straddle the track autocross and street better than the more purpose built 1LE package.

OminouSS helped my thinking in the "The ZL1 is a Great Car / The ZL1-1LE is a Special Car" thread. The non 1LE car should hustle just fine thank you.

The PDR is critical. It was on some of the cars down south so I didn't call it out.

Wait, so Morespeed, you un-cancelled it or you want opinions on your options?

I believe 66 to 70k tops is what was said in the video. Could be wrong.

3) Wait for the ZL1 ILE

Pro's.
Better track car. Potentially fast times. No need to change wheels as I was planning for my previously ordered car for more aggressive rubber. More limited numbers. Maybe less depreciation???

Con's:
Don't know cost. More wait. Not sure I want to go through this same GM order process for an even MORE limited car (not sure I willing to donate another kidney just to be given the grand honor of being given an allocation to spend a ton of money).

Also I have spent years driving around with coil overs and a car that touches the ground if there is a pebble on it. Today, my Touareg is faster than my GT3 on the streets because I have to slow down to almost to nothing for every pot hole in the GT3 with its lowered stance and low profile tires.

The ZL1 Triple Threat was too attractive. A car with excellent racing chops but could be still driven around. I plan track, autocross and street. I was still on the fence, but

OminouSS helped my thinking in the "ZL1 is a Great Car / The ZL1 1LE is a Special Car" thread. I should be able to hustle just fine in the non ZL1 thank you.

I went back to my dealer that I had ordered my car with. They were negotiating with others for someone else to pick up my prior allocation. Those others had not locked anything down yet. I recommitted to my original order.

yah I know. Maybe too much drama.

He is. He was juggling a number of people who were interested in buying my original car and taking over that allocation, but none had inked with him. He said many wanted concessions like 10K off.

I know, Upton emailed me yesterday saying it had been freed up - I did not reply to him until this morning, letting him know I had one locked up already.

Sounds like you don't particularly care for your GT3's...street comfortability? I think you would do well with ZL1 w/ MRC. You can track it just fine and still enjoy the street. Then in a couple years, if you think you want the 1LE, they will be available.
