I can't remember if it was here or on FB but someone the other day posted losing the red part.

I like it, pull the other two off, be the first to have a chromed out version.

Maybe It's just my rural, fifty miles from town mentality...I'd hit it with some cleaner to degrease. Then simply fill in the missing red from my little bottle of Testors RED model paint, with a small brush.

The factory obviously doesn't do much better. I think these are heat cured. Last edited by ctrlz; 03-04-2017 at 05:53 PM. |

Then mask off everything but the slot you want to paint, and then use Rustoleum. Multiple coats. Then hit it with a clear coat when you're done paining. Testors is plastic model cement. Will never last out in the elements. |

I agree with fastball about needing to rough up the chrome plating, paint doesn't stick to chrome very well at all.
A little bit of sandpaper glued to the end of a stick would probably do the job. That will give the paint something to bite into and stick well. The chrome just needs to be roughed up, not removed completely. I don't know if I'd go thru all the work needed to spray the new color. I'd suggest painting the emblem the way I painted the SS emblems on my car's seats. |

Oh, I missed that part of your post.
I'd suggest removing the emblem as they are just held on with strong double sided tape. Before pulling the emblem off, mark it's location with some painter's tape so you know where it needs to go when reinstalling. Then I'd try dabbing the paint you want removed with lacquer thinner on a cotton swab, that should melt the paint. Reinstall the emblem with some 3M tape and enjoy! |
