First oil Change today
I changed my oil today at 600 miles. I'm too distrusting to let the dealer do it plus I just like taking special care. The engine definitely runs cool, the color was just like fresh oil. Very clean but I haven't really stressed it yet.
Interesting thing tho that I wanted to share, it had 11 quarts from the factory. I checked the dipstick a couple times previously and it was showing high. Now it hits the full mark perfectly. |

Nice, love that NGM. I'll be doing my own as well. Are we supposed to do it 600 miles?
What size are those ramps? Last edited by DenverTaco07; 03-04-2017 at 10:11 PM. |

The owners manual doesn't recommend a change at 600, I have always preferred an early oil change on performance cars. It definitely didn't look like it needed it, no metal in the oil that I could tell or on the drain plug, but is cheap insurance.
The ramps are 56 inch long (2 peice) and 8 inches high. They worked great. Wish I had bought them long ago! |

Part of the reason I did my own is to prevent a joy ride, but honestly my dealer is pretty dependable so I am sure it would have been OK. There is no plate over the pan, plug or filter access is very easy once on the ramps. No issue on clearance and with these ramps plus they are two piece for ease of access. I got them at Amazon as well as the filters. Links below. The oil I use is Castrol Magnatec 5W30 Syn Blend. It is my favorite brand and one of the few Syn Blend, Dexos labeled I could find. Here is a photo of the bottom, supplied by another fine member on thisthis site for reference as well. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003Z...R56+race+ramps https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00AZ...rds=Delco+pf64 |

I as well had the Z06 dry sump oil change in mind as well when I decided to change early. It never hurts. |

If you read the owners manual for the LT4 crate engine, it has a break-in procedure much more resembling how I have always done my racing engines I build. Sounds like the car owners manual doesn't ask for any of this? I think you are spot-on in doing an early oil change.
BTW, here is what it says, basically two changes in first 500 miles: The engine should be driven at varying loads and conditions for the first 30 miles or one hour without wide open throttle (WOT) or sustained high RPM accelerations. Run five or six medium throttle (50%) accelerations to about 4000 RPM and back to idle (0% throttle) in gear. Run two or three hard throttle (WOT 100%) accelerations to about 4000 RPM and back to idle (0% throttle) in gear. Change the oil and filter. Replace the oil per the specification in step 1, and replace the filter with a new PF64 AC Delco oil filter. Inspect the oil and the oil filter for any foreign particles to ensure that the engine is functioning properly. Drive the next 500 miles (12 to 15 engine hours) under normal conditions. Do not run the engine at its maximum rated engine speed. Also, do not expose the engine to extended periods of high load. Change the oil and filter.
