OnStar...What you use it for?

This is my first GM product since the late 80s. I really like the 8" screen and Android auto, my question is what on earth is the point of OnStar unless I'm in an accident?
I have only had my 1LE two weeks, but see no reason I'd ever use it. What am I missing? I plan on looking over the manuals this weekend, been all work no play lately, but was hoping to hear from some of you with more experience with OnStar.

I'm in the same boat. I'm thinking it's more for a Cadillac, Buick type customer that would find value with it but then again I really don't know what other people are using it for. The only things I can think of off the bat would be to have the car unlocked remotely, accident reporting, the ability to start and do some other functions from remote locations. While I find a lot of these features cool I can't really say that I'd use them that much or that it would be worth it to me personally to have them for what they're charging. I have a Galaxy G7 phone and use Google for most everything I need.

In a somewhat related topic, my Camaro turned a year old two weeks ago so Sirius is also done and am having the same issue trying to justify renewing it, even at the $5 a month for 6 months rate. The only thing I've noticed with the loss of Sirius is that the weather and traffic patterns no longer show up on my GPS. I've also noticed that traffic alerts are no longer coming through the sound system but I honestly found the volume they chimed in at annoying and typically came after I was in or past the incident they were trying to alert me about. At $15 a month I just can't see the value there for me as I use Pandora near 95% of the time for my music.

100% useless which is why I disconnected mine day one when I bought my ss. Google info (no tin hat or conspiracy theories) and see why. I don't want my car monitored without my consent, nor reporting my top speed to law enforcement lord forbid I have a wreck (yes I street race in Mexico) . The list goes on and on.

If you have an automatic, you can remote start it from your phone. I do it with my truck all the time in the winter to warm it up if I'm too far with the key.

Yep and you can unlock your doors too. The phone app alone is why I have it. I have like the basic plan which is free anyways.

It does provide cool features but I rarely use them. The ability to start your car from your phone is cool but not worth the subscription price. I called one time after picking my mom up at the airport and asked for an Italian restaurant suggestion in the local area and they recommended one based off reviews and sent the directions to my navigation. That was in my Cadillac, only time I ever used it.

Well, from what I'm reading, I guess I haven't missed much. Mines a manual so no remote start. I guess after the trial period I won't be continuing.

Well we have the basic plan OnStar feature for 5 years at least for using the remote options. Other then that, no real use for the cost.
I did have to contact them during the full trial and told them to turn off the onstar ads thou, don't really want onstar automation talking to me.

I really have no use for it. I live on an island. Only thing worth while for me is the 3gb wifi for free. If i could only keep that I possibly would consider it. I use Waze for traffic info. I have found on stars route guidance is not correct at times here on Oahu.

You do not need to be subscribed to remote lock/unlock or remote start. It is a standard feature at no cost for any owner.

That's only for a 5 year period, then it expires.
