My first Auto X competition 3/4 @ ZMAX

So I suppose I'll run the novice class my first time out, but I might switch to A-Street if I win out of novice. It will be very interesting to see what kind of lap I can lay down and how it would have panned out if I was in A-Street.

Anyone else coming to the 3/4 ZMAX event?

I will be there! I recommend that you just stick to novice class for the near future, or even the entire season until they start the rookie of the year competition in the last 4 or 5 events. This has nothing to do with your skill or anything, just that you will get an extra run when you sign up as a novice, and nothing beats seat time. You will also get instruction from some really good drivers, some national champions. If your main goal is to improve (and I am pretty sure that it is) then it is really worth it to run novice as long as you can.

Have fun!! I agree with the above. Run Novice as long as they'll let you. In my SCCA region it is 6 races or until you trophy in a season. Our seasons are 4 races long. If you get an extra run you're lucky as our region doesn't do that. I also suggest leaving traction control on for the first few times. In auto-x in our cars it is super easy to get throttle induced oversteer on the course. You'll have a blast!

I entered Novice for the reasons both of you stated.

Egon if I understood Robby right he said that If I win Novice class week 1 I'll be booted out to run a class the following event. Sounds like a goal to me! Might be the only time I'm not handicapped for having a fast car. LOL!

Looks like I won't be the only 2017 SS 1LE there. There is a guy in the Pro Street Tire class.

Well I have never seen them invoke that rule with novices before. It's not really fair if you just happen to run with other people that are slow or in slower vehicles that would prevent you from continuing to run Novice class when you really need the seat time. I would just keep signing up as Novice and wait for someone to say something. If they do, just let me know and I will talk to the event chair. That extra run helps a lot.

LOL it looks like Dr. Jon sold his Mustang GT and bought a 2017 1LE!!! He is the 1LE you see in Pro Street tire. A hell of a guy and a fantastic driver. Watch what he does and do the same, he will also be happy to tell you everything he knows. He is going to have a lot tougher PAX for Pro Street Tire running a car from A-Street but he clearly thinks its got what it takes. He usually goes to Nationals too so I now know of at least one 1LE going to Nationals in 2017.

Good to know! That will be great to use his times as a reference to see how I'm doing. I'm really interested to see what a good driver can do in this car! I think we're about to really find out what these 1LE's are capable of now that auto x and track season is getting started.

30 in Novice alone!!! Going to be a tough task to top the boards in a class that large even if I believe my car gives me an unfair advantage!

We're about to find out how good these cars really are. I'm curious to see how the other 2017 SS 1LE guy does since he has experience and we'll see how well I can do as a rookie with only Starting Line School under my belt.

Maybe I can get some nice smooth runs in before I try to dial up the speed. Patience will be the key.

How about them apples! Fastest Novice by 2+ seconds with 48 competitors! The second place car appears to have an error on its times it's second fastest lap was a 83. Frankly I find his 83 hugely impressive since the car he was driving is a 2015 Dodge Dart.

Here is my thread with the PDR video in the 1LE section along with my thoughts on the car's performance. http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showth...37#post9595637 .

HUGE THANKS TO EGON!!! He actually was my Novice instructor for the day and was extremely helpful! He may actually have more good comments for you guys about the dynamics of the car from the passenger seat since he has much more experience in auto x than myself.

BTW the PAX time isn't right in that photo. My PAX Calculates out to 59.353 which would land me 61st overall out of 252! EGON did you see who was 60th in PAX? Missed him by .05 seconds. HAHA!

Also the pro drivers racing the other 2017 SS 1LE ran a 69.875 and 70.486.

If you were only 2 seconds behind another 1LE driver that has a lot of experience, you did an unbelievable job. Congrats!
