1) BONE STOCK
2) I took the performance supplement INTO the dealer to discuss the service for my upcoming track event, which included the proper oil and alignment - I do read. 3) Chevy lead engineer on these cars, Big Al as I call him, specifically issued a "track warranty" on our machines, which was a "Big Al Factor" in me buying this specific car, because I was going to track it with ZERO mods so that if something broke, GM would fix it. Just Google his statements on same regarding our 1LEs and the ZL1s as to a GM track warranty. http://www.torquenews.com/106/factor...s-track-action Now if that is not honored, GM and I will have words. I am a huge fan of this car and promote it everywhere I go. So, they better fix my girl right. I had a track weekend scheduled this coming weekend too at Cresson! I think GM would want me to take it everywhere and show it off as I spank many a more expensive vehicle on track. That is exactly why they made it. COTA does eat cars as it is long, fast, often hot, and lots of braking with elevation and curves - 3.41 miles of heaven. Sunday was Texas chilly at 55 degrees or so and overcast. The car imploded after the back straight (lies between 11 and 12) and at the end I was at 140 mph in the video, hard braking to a 110 degree left (12), short burst in 2nd gear squeezing over left for a very tight, late apex right at 13 to 14 for straight line 14-15. As I rounded 14 and depressed the go lever, in 2nd, it responded, hesitated, and cratered while climbing from 3,500 RPM to 5,000 RPM, then deadish, smoke, and warning lights. Again, it took less than a few seconds and it was all over. As I ground to a halt off track, ONSTAR emailed me the engine failure notice. Last edited by Vintage; 02-27-2017 at 04:28 PM. |

Vintage, thanks for sharing, sounds like you dotted your "i"s and crossed your "t"s. Hope your car is fixed quickly and future commentators on this thread read the previous posts before commenting.

Sounds like you did everything right. They better honor the warranty or all hell will break loose on the internet about this! HAHAHA!!!
I'd be willing to bet this was a dealer error. I'm almost certain they didn't bother to track down the dexos 2 recommended track oil. I can attest that its not the easiest thing to find. I special ordered my 5W40 Motul from a vendor on Amazon.

Why does Dexos2 keep coming up. Like it is some magical elixir.
Dexos2 is GMs certified oil for diesels. Maybe it sounds cooler to call it Track Oil? I bet it just keeps the emissions cleaner during hard running, thats it. Not using it wont make your motor pop. According to GM lists AC Delco oil is dexos2. As pointed out above. Dexos2 is everywhere.....except when you go around asking for Dexos2 "Track Oil"

Diff oil was changed at dealer with my 1,500 mile break in/pre-track maintenance. Oil, diff, brake fluids were changed at that time. I do not maintain my cars other than paying dealer prices for them to maintain them to recommended specs. I just check oil, monitor tire wear and pressure, torque lugs at track. Also, track alignment performed, lugs torqued, full pre-track inspection and strut bar added. $1k service ($300 of that was strut bar and installation). No mods to car of any kind other than PPF installation on front, rockers, and behind rear wheels - I do not like rock/debris chips in paint.

No body running 0w40.....? Just me... hmm
AT least car is oem specs even if they refuse to cover it off the bat you're only a quick phone call away going up the change reminding the dealer track duty is under warranty for once! Still a win I say |

OP, I think you did everything you were supposed to do. I believe GM will do the correct thing and replace your engine.
