Pinch weld bend?

First thing I bought was the magnetic jack pad from zl1addons to use it with my floor jack.

Realize the area got bend where I put my 4 jackstands on. Some, not all 4... Eww still definitely not happy.

Strongly encourage you to buy maybe 4 more jack pad for the jackstands..

Anyway, any method to fix the bend pinch weld? can I hammer it?

The jack stands I use have an area for the pinch weld. Seemed to work perfectly when installing the axle back exhaust.

May try purchasing new jack stands rather than jack pads. The jack pads show not to use with stands I thought.

Not sure on the other issue. I would think hammering on the weld and bending multiple times would cause it to lose structural integrity.

I am definitely not happy with the process of jacking up the car. I bought the the ZL jack pads but not happy with them. I put them in the correct position and add their slippery surface puck and it has slide off and the jack pad tilts and causes the puck to slip off. I now use a regular hockey puck the I have scuffed up with a file so it does not slip. I have also scuffed up the bottom of the metal jack pad with a file to create a non slippery surface.

In my opinion the GM engineering department did not keep
In mind the regular Joe that likes to do garage work at home and jack up his car once in a while. Plus, what a mess when the dealership can even mess up your car by not positioning their jack pads correctly.

Sorry to hear that your pinch welds got bent.

I have a ZL1Addons magnetic jack pad for my floor jack. I was a little leary about setting the pinch welds down on regular jack stands so I bought these stands and pads. I haven't tried them yet so I can't comment on how well they work. I'll let you know when I do use them.

Hawk,

I received the same stands as a gift and was wondering how i was going to use a puck for the pinch since the surface of them is.. interesting. Where did you get those pads that fit perfectly or did you notch them yourself?

I'm not happy with the ZL1 design either. I bought it with the magpad, and it still slipped off my jack, causing damage to my side rocker. Your floor jack saddle MUST be larger than the magpad. Ugh, hopefully this saves someone the same headache I'm dealing with now.

question... are you supposed to lift against the BOTTOM of the vertical pinch weld itself or are the pads designed to keep the lifting force off of the pinch weld and lift along side (around) the pinch weld?

I just use wood between the floor jack and pinch weld... the wood is soft enough to spread the pressure along 4" of pinch weld, and also keeps it from slipping.

Hey hzisfrom1994.

That REALLY SUCKS that one of the pinch welds is bent. One of my biggest fears....... I have no idea how, and if that is even repairable. Hopefully someone more experienced will chime in.

I currently have mine up on 4 jack stands for the Winter. It REALLY makes me nervous, as each of the pinch welds are sitting on the metal "V" on the jack stands. I did use my ZL1Addons magnetic jack pad with my floor jack to initially lift the car in order to place the jack stands down. It worked well for me.

Having read your thread, I just ordered a set of 4 Race Ramps FlatStoppers, to start using for my Winter storage months.

Again, sorry to hear of this and will be watching this thread to see if someone can chime in and give you some recommendations to possibly repair the pinch weld.

I've had my car up on 4 jack stands as well and the pinch welds seemed to hold just fine. I used the normal jack stands you see everywhere (like the pic below) and it seemed to work no problem. I was a bit worried though but no issues. Maybe I just got lucky. I put it down VERY slowly on them. I'm always scared to try and use the type posted above as they just look so easy to knock over with such a small footprint. I'm sure they're not but they just appear to be that way.

I agree 100%, and those jack stands are pretty much identical to the ones I am currently using.........Just ordered these (for future Winter storage):

I bought these to put on top of my old, flat top, jack stands. I use two floor jacks with two ZL1addon jack pads to lift evenly side to side and then set it down on the stands with the pucks.

I'm an old-timer, I guess, but a nice soft piece of wood has always worked for me, too! That, and I'm exceedingly cheap!
