Anyone install a sub? Need some options

Anyone here install a subwoofer on their Camaro? I've got the 2SS trim with the Bose and it sounds great and actually has a ton of bass for a stock sound system, but I am thinking about adding a little more.

A buddy of mine has a set of 2 x 10" subs in a box that he was gonna sell me but it's way to bulky. I want to get a single sub, preferably a shallow mount style since our trunks are small enough as it is.

I saw the JL Stealth box, but I'm not paying $800-$1000 for a single sub, especially when the sub itself is only $350. I don't need it too look that clean, I can build my own custom box and remove it when I need the trunk space. What are my options?

So far I've been looking at these:
- 12TW3 from JL ($350)
- Swr-t12 from Alpine ($300)
- FPR12-04 from MTX Audio ($250)
- Rockford Fosgate R2S-1X10 ($115)
- TSSWX2502 from Pioneer ($100)

I would use JL Audio, I always do. Both of their TW3 shallow mount subs, 10" or 12" are great, it just depends on how large of an enclousure you want to fit.

There is a lot of chatter on this subject and everyone's situation is unique.

It did take quite a bit of research and planning before actually tearing things apart and unlike some folks who like to rip on someone for asking a simple question, here is my experiment and there are two links referenced within this post.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input man, yeah I hear great things about JL, they are pricey but they make a quality product. What would I be sacrificing by going with a product that's say half the price (like some of my other options listed) is it reliability or will the subs just not produce as much bass (hit as hard)? My goal is to impact as little of my trunk space as possible so I think I'm fine with a 10"

Very helpful! I appreciate it/

Thanks for your feedback dude, your set up looks sick! I bet it sounds really good. I think I'm going to try to stick one sub just to make more room and make it easier to remove the sub, but great details in your post!

Let's move away from that and and get back on subject.
Not to insult you if you already know but you are going to need an amp. If you take a look at my diagram and eliminate the DSP you could wire directly to the amp that has hi level inputs. Make sure it has a remote turn on also. The Memphis is not bad for the price. My first setup was a 500 watt Alpine and a 12 inch S type. Wasn't bad for the price but it wasn't tight enough for me.

I actually set the sub up first before I put the DSP in front of the amp. You will read a lot of different opinions as to which speaker outputs to tap into. I chose the front so I could have the sub on with just the fronts if I want to fade out the back speakers. The is also a sub output from the Bose but I have not tried that so I cannot offer any input.

As stated in the diagram you will also need to pull the plug or disconnect the door microphones. They produce a low frequency signal that when amplified is horrendous. (Not sure if that signal is fed through the Bose Sub channel).

Great, yes I know I'll need an amp. Thanks for all the info on the install, this helps a lot!

I have read that when removing the door panel to disconnect the ANC mic, there is a clip that can only be used one. Did anyone replace a clip of the door, or can you reinstall the panel without issue when not replacing that clip?

My installer did not change that clip, I mentioned it and he said it was not neccesary. I believe him since there are no noises in the door panels or issues at all.

You can reuse it. You just have to reseat the head of the clip in its "doghouse."

Thanks for letting me know. I was concerned there would be noise if it wasn't replaced.

I might as well apply some sound deadening while I have the door panel off.
