If you don't like depreciation buy a used CPO with a decent warranty. Otherwise get a Wrangler. If you keep a car long enough, it doesn't matter. If you like moving in and out of cars quickly, try swap a lease. If you keep a Camaro SS one year you will get clobbered. Three is not so bad. No wonder GM is offering 48 month leases, an unusually long term.

At least around here used 2016s SS2s are selling for just a couple grand under what I got a new 2017 for.(with 10k miles on them)

The three year old Nissan Z I traded in with 37k miles on it was worth less than half what I paid for it (and I bought with employee discount).

Definitely, it was probably worse than a normal because there were a lot of changes with the 6th gen. That's just how the game is.

You pay to play.

Try losing $35k in 9 months. My '15 GTR Black Edition. Bought for $107k back when the model year was new, traded it in on my Z06 9 months later. They gave me $73k for my GTR w/ 8000 miles on it. That same model year GTR is now retailing for $75k-$80k. If i traded it in today, I'd prob only be given $60k for it. Think about that. Thats a drop of $50k in 2 years. Not even 2 years actually.

My Z06/7 ran $109k. I'd prob get in the $80's on trade so. I've had it a year. I've lost $30k already. Shit gets expensive. haha.

You want a car with great resale or that could even appreciate over time? Then get the 6 figure and up cars that have limited production and limited buyers. For example. The Ford GT (yes the supercar) actually gained value over time from it's original retail price. Of course, limited production and limited market.

The old Gen 5 owners really got hit hard on resale value because I think the only buyers who would be into one at this point would be for the aesthetics and cheap prices, but certainly not the performance. The Gen 6 has trumped the old gen in every way (imo).

And yes, in general, foreign cars just tend to hold their value much better than American.

This of course is just my opinion. But hey, it is a forum after all.

Buy the car YOU want, the way YOU want it, and enjoy the hell out of it. I know I did and I don't regret a single thing. No matter what it may be worth tomorrow or a decade from now.
Agreed -- however there's always the unique exceptions such as the 93-94 Supra turbo and E30 series M3 BMW.

You are from Texas and you have to considery that when trading in it reduces the amount of sales tax you pay. You buy a $50000 car and you get $30000 for your trade in and you only pay sales tax on $20000. And at 6.25% that's a good chunk of cash. So you would have to sell the car for that much higher to equal what you got as a trade in.

Not to rub it in, I lost less than $2k in value on my Jeep in over 2 years... Which is why nobody like's dealing with it.

I got my car for over 11K under sticker. With that said, if I were to turn around and trade in immediately, the value would be 14K under sticker...amazing how that works. loved the car...and knew what In was getting into.

You can't go by what the dealer will offer you cause they always lowball.
I was offered 6k and 4k by two different dealers for my old car and I sold it for 16,500 (above kbb). And it was on Craigslist for less than a week.

Wow so they were lowballing you by over 10K? That's pretty unusual I would think. Maybe I'm just being naive.

Yeah good point. I forgot about the taxes you have to pay on a private sale. LAME.
