First Proper Detail

Hi Guys!

A couple months ago I asked about the proper procedures for taking off rejex that I mistakenly put on after my bumper was replaced.

Now the time has come where it's about time to reapply rejex on the entire car. I've also come to the point where I have micro scratches (the circles in direct light) on the entire car.

I'm debating paying a professional to take out the micro scratches, do a thorough wash, and rejex it up, and also apply window tint.

Alternatively I can do everything but the tint myself, but I'm honestly scared of taking out the micro scratches.

Money is a little tight right now, but I'm a fairly impatient lad. I've gotten frustrated applying rejex in a dusty environment in the past, and I'm deathly scared that I'll mess up with the dual action orbiter (is that what it is?) and take out too much paint when taking the scratches out?

Also since money right now is not too free to spend, would buying the proper tools vs paying someone to do it be the right choice?

Also would that process mean my paint won't last all that long?

What should I do?

My opinion, have a pro do it. Seeing as how you are skeptical, you run the risk of buying the supplies, messing up and having to get a pro to do it anyways. If you feel confident you can do it yourself, by all means. I have refrained from doing any polishing whatsoever because I have never done it before and dont want to try it out on my brand new car. It would probably run you about 200 bucks to get the correction where you'll pay that or more to get a good DA polisher, plus supplies.

Getting your paint polished means taking off a tiny tiny layer of clear coat to get rid of the microscratches. If you polish it every week, you'll have to get a new clear coat eventually, but if they are indeed, only micro scratches, it would only be a very minor paint correction.

I'm not a pro, but that's my two cents, Glen or Kirk would probably have some more advice if they see this.

This makes perfect sense. If it's totally new to you, and you don't think you're going to like the labor process, get a detailer to polish the car out, and then you could put on the last step wax or Sealant.....it What I recommend to people that don't want to get into detailing. It has a learning curve.

By the way rejex is old school. used it for years. There are so many, much better, products out there now require much less effort. It's What's known as a generation one polymer.

Thank you guys so much!

Iwhat sealant would you recommend? I've always been told that reject is the best but I'm not attached by any means, just unaware of better options.

REJEX is a good product. But Now you can get the same product, that does not need a haze buff off - blackfire Crystal seal is one - watch this:

And mine looks like this, after a 20 min application:

Click on the docs in my signature , read #1-4 in order

Oh wow! And this would provide the same level of water resistance and make the car easier to clean like the reject would) I love the idea of not have to buff out the haze

Yup but see if you can find the 4oz, there's 10 cars in the little bottle!

Also if you hand apply/buff off the "blackfire total polish and seal" first, it'll look and last longer. Only needed the first time.....

Bought that too! Thank you

So apply blackfire total polish and seal, let it dry, buff off, then apply crystal seal?

I have used the crystal seal but if I follow directions it leaves streak marks. I found that after applying I just wipe it off with microfiber. Wish I could get it right by directions, called the Geeks they were of no help. I started using Liquid Glass, so easy to go on and off, great shine.

My experience is that it can leave high spots but are easily wiped away with a microfiber towel. I wait as long as I can before wipe them away. Also, I find I get less streaks if spray my applicator instead of directly on surface.
