Thanks

PTM is just the system. You can put it in Track Mode, then select Race in the PTM. That should disable everything.

I also drove with all nannies off.

You do NOT want to disable PTM. It is simply better than you are.

I know I'm resurrecting an old thread, but I want to make sure everyone understands that putting the car into Race mode within the PTM does not fully disable the stability control. It backs off the stability control a lot allowing for a decent amount of oversteer, but it will still intervene if it gets too sideways.

When I was at the track a few weeks ago I had my car in Race mode and I had the PDR recording my laps. There were a couple times that the stability control icon flashed in the overlay of the video. Only time all the systems are totally disabled is if you press and hold the TC button for like 6 or 8 seconds.

I can vouch for that. I was in competition mode and the stability assist came on as the rear stepped out last week and the stability light flickered, last weekend I did the full 6 second hold of the button, the lights came on showing the assists were off but did not display competitive mode, got the car sideways shifting into 3rd and no stability light came on to help me out. competitive mode IMHO lets you hang yourself but will save you when your about to kill yourself....

This should be understood to be honest, but it is worded somewhat vague in the supplement. PTM is performance traction management...it manages your traction by having to use stability control. Without using that, it can't really do it's job. The eLSD works regardless if you are using PTM or not. I noticed the supplement does say race mode turns off stability control as well, but if you read the page before it does mention pushing and holding the button to turn it off as another option. I do think that needed to be better explained...

It also makes heavy use of spark, fuel, and throttle control to manage power delivery. In fact, in the straights (say, in wet mode), you can hear the engine change tone as the system limits power levels for the selected conditions. No stability control present in that function...which is part of what makes it so good.

Stability control uses spark, fuel, throttle, etc, etc as part of it's algorithms. So it's all intertwined. It isn't just yaw control...hence why PTM really, technically, can't have it all off...

Agreed.

...It may sound silly...but even in "race" mode...PTM is engaged. Do people mistakenly believe that "race" means the computer assists are all off?

I think so. But like others have said this system is so good it will always be better than turning all the nannies off! That's why guys like Randy Pobst use PTM Race for benchmark laps and not turning it all off.

Well, race mode is part of PTM, so of course PTM is on...the confusion came from race mode being described in the performance supplement as not having stability control on, when in fact (at a lower setting) it does. It mentions elsewhere, that the user has to turn off TC and SC by holding down the button first...it's not worded very well...
