I'm with you on this. I just don't understand why someone would park like that with all those empty spots. I tend to go even further out than you. I always park at the end of a row so that other cars can only park next to me on one side. It reduces my exposure by 50%.

I once saw a guy driving an old beat up early 90's model f150 pull into a spot next to a trail blazer with the woman in the trail blazer sitting in her vehichle, guy gets out hits the trailblazer with his door, woman gets out and says politely im sorry sir you just hit my car with your door guy says it doesnt matter your car isnt new anyways, walks away without a care in the world. Unfortunately i was working at the moment or i wouldve kicked a dent into the side of that guys truck to see what his response wouldve been.

I must be the only one who can't see the OP's pic.

I look for either something expensive or something that I can tell is clean and cared for because they likely share my mentality.

I avoid minivans and SUV's though for the most part. There's a high likelihood that there will be kids with these types of vehicles and kids are careless by nature. It could be with the door itself or maybe a toy or something they are holding. It's not their fault, I was oblivious too as a kid but that's why you have to take precautions.

Same here, I try to go 2 or 3 spots down minimum. It doesn't make it look obvious that you are avoiding other cars but it's safe anyway. I also prefer it because I like to open my door fully, especially with a coupe, and you need room so I don't want a car beside me.

Never realized what a science this is!

Hmm... so "normal car" to RobertSmith means parking it in the first spot available and letting it get dinged left and right? I totally fail to see the logic.

People can and some DO truly enjoy...... being an asshole.

Door dings are unfortunately a part of modern, urban life. Same way gravel rash and broken windshields are MY bane out here in rural America.

ALWAYS something in the Universe to **** us over it seems.

I've been in your neck of the woods. There is nothing to stops the randomness of "Rural".

i would only park it in a parking spot that has no spot available next to it. Like the end spots. So you put the wheels over the line on the side that no one can park next to me.

I always park my nice cars as far away from civilization as possible, and uphill from any cart corrals. I've never had anyone mess with me by parking next to me on purpose, but you can bet if I found a car next to mine in BFE, and a ding that wasn't there before, their car would end up with a nice dent from the bottom of my boot.

My wife once parked one of our new cars in a parking spot in Boulder, which is notorious for having tiny parking spaces and a clueless, entitled bunch of nitwits living there. She parked on an end space as we always do, and she hadn't even gotten out of the car yet when an SUV full of kids pulled up, and both side doors proceeded to be flung open, putting TWO dings in our car at once. She got out and confronted the soccer mom, and the freaking woman just kind of dismissed it as too bad, the kids didn't mean it, and walked away. My wife called the cops, and they said since it was in a private parking lot, it was a civil case and they wouldn't get involved. This was pre-cellphone camera days, so no photographic evidence. We had the woman's license plate number, but the police wouldn't give us any information and told us to turn it over to our insurance company. The insurance company just fixed the dings and that was the end of that.

Moral of the story? People are idiots, stay as far away as possible, and drive your beater if at all possible.

I used to park my 2nd gen T/A so far away from others that no one would be willing to walk that far.

One day, some ahole keyed the f out of it because it knew it was someones pride and joy.

So, watch out for double parking, parking isolated, different aholes look for that.

I park in the BFE too but NEVER take up more than one spot, never had a problem... yet. I see some people that double park in BFE, they're just asking for it.
