7" to 8" MyLink

I know how to remove the 7" Display, but i need more info on connecting the wires and such. First of all, MUST you install the iO5 receiver for the display to work? Secondly, does the 7" Display have the same connectors as the 8" Display? If not, can I just buy the harnesses from a place like gmpartshouse? Will it be plug and play? The more info given, the better, so please help! I installed the bose speakers so I DO in fact want to install the iO5 or maybe even iO6

Post a pic of the wires that go into your 7" and I can look at my 8" to see at least if the connectors are a direct fit. It's only 2 plugs back there. Your hmi module might be a issue.

I can tell the main plug in, not the mini usb plug is in a different location. Can't tell if it's the same plug. I'll pull mine tonight to see. Look at this link it has the 8" from behind maybe it will help until I can pull mine.

Wow that's interesting. It doesn't seem like if I unplug mine that I'll be able to just plug and play the 8". I wonder if I could find a wiring harness and be able to swap the two.

7" to 8" MyLink

Can someone do me a HUGE favor and take a picture of your hmi module under the passenger side dash? I need a picture of the ports/wires and connectors. Please state whether you have iO5 (non nav) or iO6 (nav upgrade) it would be a HUGE help. I'm trying to work this whole thing out for 1LT owners to get the 8" Display so I would much appreciate it. Thanks!!

It's not only the display, to go from a 7" to the 8" you will need a new IP and more, but I will post some pics when I am back at the shop on monday.

Would it be possible if you could give me a list of things I will need then I could figure it out from there? I'm trying real hard to make this possible. I've already pulled apart the whole dash and looked around and understand many of the several differences of the i04 to i05 and 6. Most of the connectors are different and the hmi module is different as well.

Seems like you are trying to upgrade everything that comes with the 2LT RS package., Was there a reason you didn't just buy one? I'm not trying to be mean in asking that, just curious. I see you have made a lot of the mods that come in that package. Also, best of luck with this. I would be very interested as well if this can be done.

Feel free to use these pics in the album linked. It's all i have really from when i removed the radio from the Onstar module pictured there. Pictured are the two modules under the dash. The silver one is the one with onstar and the black one i didn't bother researching at the time, if that helps you any.

Sat radio and such is over further to the right of the glove box right behind the fender panel on the passenger side. I didn't need to dive into that area so no pics.

My car is a 1LT with 8" mylink and tech pkg. No navigation because that's like throwing your money away when you have android auto.

Navy doesn't pay me enough for the 2LT RS /: had to buy the non RS 1LT and little by little upgrade everything one by one

I always see people asking "why didnt you get the SS" or "why didnt you get the rs". Does it matter? They didnt and I didnt. Many options can be added for way less then getting it initially from the dealer. This has been done by people since way before the 6th gen. Great thread. Interested as well.
