5th Gen ZL1 to 6th Gen 1LE

I'm thinking of trading in my 5th gen ZL1 for a new 1LE. A few things I'm looking for are the automatic rev matching, the PDR and the Recaro seats. I simply don't spend enough time on the track to master heal-toe shifting and my stock seats in the ZL1 are terrible for the track. I had a chance to use the performance data recorder @ a Caddy V-Series event and it was awesome. Has anyone else made the same switch? Am I going to miss the extra 130hp? Thanks!

I didn't come from a 5th gen ZL1 but I can say based on other members on here that went from a 5th gen Z to a regular 6th gen SS and say that it was an improvement across the board I can only imagine that going to a new 1LE would be even better.

I'm hoping to make the change from a 5th gen 1LE to a 6 gen this Monday. If all goes well, I'll let you know the differences

Thumbs up

This sounds interesting. Is there any other 5th gen ZL1 owners who upgraded to 6th gen SS 1LE? Please share us your driving experience comparing both cars. The 6th gen ZL1 its an amazing perfect Camaro, but out of my budget at this time.

I myself did this change. From a 600rwhp 2013 zl1 to a 20171le. Overall its a huge improvement. While there is a big horsepower deficit. The handling and driving experience more than make up for it. The hp is more than easy to surpass. I plan on a 2.9 whipple soon.

I would almost think if you trade or sell your 5th Gen ZL1 then you can do a upgrade to the 6th Gen ZL1....

I know the 6th Gen 1LE will handle better but I wouldn't want to lose the HP and feel of the ZL1....

Good luck

As mentioned, the 6th Gen is a big step forward from theprevious car. The driving dynamics are significantly improved, and the Gen 5 was good to begin with. Recaros are great, and the PDR sems cool.

Personally, I think the rev matching is OK. It seems slow to react most of the time, and it's hard for me not to rev match myself when it's on I'm so used to it. You don't need to be on the track to practice rev matching, you can do it anytime you drive the car.

I didn't go directly from a 5th gen ZL1 to the 6th gen 1LE, but I did have a fully modded ZL1 a few years ago. It put down 670whp. I can tell you that literally everything about the 6th gen, especially the 1LE, is an improvement. No it doesn't have the oh so sweet blower wine and ridiculous torque, but everything else is improved inside and out. Feels lighter, smaller, more nimble, better fit and finish, and looks better IMO.

I'm a little jadded from mine because I had a lot of heat soak issues even with an aftermarket heat exchanger. And I didn't feel like putting anymore money into it to chase that rabbit. The SS 1LE, beat it the hell down ALL DAY at the track and it just wants more. My favorite car to date and I've been through 6 cars in the last 6.5 years lol.

Trade it in! First thing I did with my bone stock 1LE was DSX Tuning Flex Fuel conversion, E85, and Dave Steck tune. 460 RWHP! After LTH, MSD Atomic Air Force intake, it's hittin bout 500, and at 3600 lbs in a 6th gen 1LE, you won't miss anything! RECARO seats are great, I use the factory belt, race method of tightening, and don't move a bit. The technology alone will make you faster. Jordan Priestly, JDP Motorsports, was beating his own highly modified 5th gen performance, with a near stock 2016 SS. Direct injection loves E85, and I expect to make 580 RWHP after TSP CNC porting heads and cam. No blower weight on the nose of car, and nice even power curve.

Rev match hesitation? Really? Something is wrong with your car if that's the case. Lol mine hits immediately every time.
