Oh ok. I do agree with you that the gen 5 Recaros look much better than the 6th gen Recaros. Yes the Stingray is several hundred pounds lighter but the 1LE is made for the track. The 1LE has better and wider tires, bigger brakes, and the new FE4 suspension. The alpha platform also does wonders on the Camaro. The Stingrays weight advantage only becomes apparent in straight line acceleration although the 1LE has very similar straight line performance. I would say the 1LE is a bargain for what if offers. It is more of a sports car than a muscle car and that is a good thing in my book.

Just depends what you want it for. I have been comparing the 2 and thing i like most about the corvette is the targa top. I really wish they would do one for camaro or bring back T TOPS but I know that won't happen. Sucks no sunroof is available for 1LE in new model.
I also like how low you feel sitting in a corvette. my 5th gen feels like a lifted truck after getting out of corvette. Having new car over used is a great advantage though and 1LE should only go down in price the longer they are out. |

If what I want is daily driveable track car, 1LE.
If I want weekend cruiser with couple of track days a year, Z51. Camaros are more comfortable for more frequent use but Corvettes give more special feeling. Also removable top is nice when weather's nice. As for the faster lap with 1LE compared to Z51, I think Z51 can/will be same or tiny bit faster IF you put on same tires as 1LE. You can't go wrong with either one. Pick the one that makes your heart pump faster and enjoy.

Convertibles are def. easier and better, but I can't go to most tracks without adding roll bar, so I preferred coupe.

I think I am the man to give advice here : Bought a z51 2016 in August torch RED Carbon black accents 7 speed manual. I truly loved this car for so many reasons I still feel its a super car. I sold the z51 because I was moving back east wasn't sure about daily driving it here in Atlanta vs California. I thought I wanted more of a daily driving track machine and something to take my wife and daughter on trips in. So I bought the 1le 1500 miles so far and tracking it this weekend.
1le break down. It's a top performing muscle car nothing can beat it for the money as far as performance goes. Those recaros fit so nicely , actually better than the Vette seats the suede is very nice. I find the Camaro to be more planted and feels like it digs into the turn more solid, I like the steering wheel response and feel better, and the shifter is much better shorter throws less clunky vs c7. I do feel I can feel the speed difference despite being close 3.9 zero to sixty vs 4.2 zero to sixty I feel about three car lengths slower than the Vette, being lower and a better viewing angle out of the windshield makes it feel faster and more adrenaline IMO. The c7 z51 : The Vette is more exotic draws more attention I've been driving in Atlanta where there are Camaro's every square inch no one really knows a 1le. Vs the Vette every ten seconds someone thinks its a Ferrari. I don't care about attention but I did notice that the camaro is less exotic . The Vette feels a bit more refined on the inside , On the track I think it would edge out the 1le despite what times have shown just feels a bit quicker. The Vette is more of an experience I just love taking the targa top off and blasting the Bose stereo I really do miss that aspect I felt Like I could cruise slower with the Vette and enjoy the top off leather refined feeling. The camaro I feel like I need want to drive faster and don't have as much Visceral feeling in the 1le vs Vette. This has been a problem for me adjusting to Atlanta vs Los Angeles as the roads are horrible every inch is broken full of traffic and cops , which makes me miss the cruising of the corvette. Overall I hate to say it I would choose the z51 for the experience not rivaled for the money. A few simple upgrades ( CAI, Tires, ) and the z51 would exceed the 1le performance . I love the 1le its the best bang for the buck its so classic muscle looking I cant wait to track drive it, but something inside makes me still miss the Vette the little things the way the door opens the way the trunk closes etc just feels like an exotic plus the targa tops are my fav. This is a small part of me that is considering going back to the Vette , will no more after I track the car this weekend. I have no doubt that track experience will be amazing , its the rest of what the Vette offers that I miss. PS c6 is not c7 I loved taking my roof off, so easy and never once rattled***I like targa more than convertible in general Last edited by formoutofchaos; 02-15-2017 at 10:14 AM. |

Thanks for the perspective!!! I just text drove a 1LE, and GOD DAMN! It's better in every way than the last generation, but it is definitely much more crammed. I still really disliked the seats although they were very comfortable. They wouldn't let me test drive their Corvettes, as they only had new ones, so I'll have to look elsewhere so that I can compare it to the 1LE. End of story here is that the 1LE is beyond doubt the best bang for buck. If it weren't for the Corvettes great looks, slight performance edge, and low used price, the 1LE would be my hands down choice. Plus, Costco sent me an offer on a '17 1LE in red for $39k, which is INSANE! |

Get a 14 C7 3LT or 15 2LT for the same price range as the 1LE. For the most part Corvette owners baby their cars. The exception being the Rentals. I used my C6 as a daily driver.
They should be getting less expensive as the Grand Sport C7 came out this year and the "Base" C7 owners will want to upgrade. |

I love how people keep talking about the "slight performance edge" that the corvette has when there is absolutely no meaningful data that supports this claim. (there is however, data that supports the contrary)

Make sure your looking at z51 numbers not regular Vette, I mean the Vette is the big brother to the SS the engine was designed for that car i give the camaro 92% of a c7 but more useable , I've tracked my c7 I'll tell you this weekend how the 1le feels on track |

When I am talking about "performance" I am talking about track times I could care less how fast a car can go in a straight line. To each their own though for sure. |

I know that Costco has discount program for automobile purchases but I did not know that they contacted you. How did they know that you wanted a 1LE?

a mighty tough choice.i looked at a base 2004 vette,51,000 miles and liked it when i drove it.came home with a 2015 RS camaro, certified used with chevy warrantee.drove about 15 different ones, looked them all over including a couple of 2016s.was not impressed with having to pay $1500 more for the optional 6 cylinder so i went with the last year it was standard.since my car only had 8,000 miles on it when i bought it,it wasnt even broken in yet.if you really like the vette see about getting a certified used one,the warrantee is a great feature.
