My particular dealer had 4 allocations...and they did not really pursue me or hassle me at all. They are a "non-commission" dealership so there really is not any reason for salesmen or managers to "go after" you. I just walked in with my refundable deposit picked out what I wanted, as far as the limited choice of options and that was it. They send me emails once and a while to update me of any significant news...like currently, my car is on a train heading my way...yay

The dealerships here in SoCal seem to have the same attitude towards the ZL1 as the GT350. They just figure someone will come along and buy them...eventually. ZL1s are not high volume cars, so they are not making a ton of money trying to push those compared to say a Silverado...or a Cruze., etc. Those are the "Bread and Butter" of their profits, not ZL1s, not even sure about Camaros in general. As it has been stated in several other threads that I have read, there are plenty of ZL1s just sitting around right now at dealerships...just waiting for a new owner. No hassle, no fuss, no ordering, no waiting...although several have mark ups, some substantial mark ups (those will never sell at the high mark up price). There are still several at MSRP, just need to shop around. Sorry to hear that is not the same in other parts of the country, but if it makes people feel better, our taxes are higher than most places...all taxes (lol)....~sigh~

Knock on wood, I've had the opposite experience with Boch (formerly Clay) Chevrolet in Norwood, MA. I called up the salesman who sold me my 2015 SS about their ZL1 allocation in late December and placed the deposit same day. The whole team there seemed excited to have one available and can't wait for the April (hopefully) delivery.

Even if dealers don't like to order cars, I'm still surprised at how many dealers are trying to sell a ZL1 already in their inventory with an ADM.

I did a 150 mi radius search on CarGurus. Four dealers have new ZL1s. Two had ADMs, one was selling at MSRP, and one was discounted below MSRP.

The two dealers with ADMs have had the ZL1s on their lot for more than 30 days according to CarGurus.

My experience ordering a ZL1 was terrible as well. I "ordered" my car in late December, but they kept dragging their feet giving me the order number. Emails were sent with no response, calls were not returned etc..

I was offering to pay MSRP, and I still don't understand why they wouldn't return a phone call. I finally sent an email and told them to forget the whole thing. I magically had an order number within an hour. (Of course they just placed the order immediately before sending it to me.)

A person would think buying a $67,000 car at MSRP would be a lot easier. I was blown away by how little dealerships seem to care.

Some dealers don't really care to order one because they're scared that it won't sell. I was able to pick up another dealer's allocation today because I asked for extra on top of our normal ZL1 allocation. We got it because there was a dealer that turned their allocation down. I also picked up a black ZL1 from a dealer near by that didn't want the car. They are a really small dealer that got their ZL1 as part of their new dealer allocation. They're in a town with almost no market for ZL1. We sold the car in about a week. Crazy.

Just experienced the same today in fact.

Had an appointment with the dealer rep to change an allocation they had to specifically what I wanted. He stated he wouldn't be there, but his "partner" and said he'd be free. I drove in and the backup was apparently locked up in "training" and couldn't be bothered until later in the afternoon. And I was welcome to wait the two hours if I wanted to.

I just left. I've been pretty pissed since I got back and wanted to write their GM a note about the incompetence they have working there, but from what I've read here, it doesn't seem like it would make a difference. Especially since in the end I'm the only one that loses in the situation. Their allocations will sell regardless of if it is to me or not. But if I want one, I'm the one who has to jump through the hoops.

Maybe, I'll let you know after I get some road and track miles on the ZL1!

I will say, even the price of replacement tires is significantly lower, economies of scale I guess.

I will say these new American cars are undeniably good.

It's worth going up the ranks....short, unrelated story...my local dealer agreed to schedule me and perform a tire mount and balance (they knew full well what car they were getting...VIN, description, etc...)...and when the car got there, they informed me that they didn't have the equipment to swap tires of that size. But they'd be happy to sub it out to someone down the road since I was there.

I was furious, and said no...got it done at another place I trusted...then called the GM.

He was courteous, and informed me that he didn't know. I even took the time to patronize him and explain how many different models of Camaro and Corvette have at least a 285mm width tire and above - for them not to have a machine capable of servicing these vehicles (to me) is ludicrous. He agreed, and claimed they'd be ordering an appropriately-sized tire mounting machine asap...6 months later, and they now have one...

I don't trust Clay as far as I can throw them. They played that game with me when I bought my 2012. Did they give you an order number yet?

I sent emails out to about 10 dealers in central NJ asking about an allocation for an A10 ZL1. Only 1 dealer responded. Order was entered with them and now I'm waiting.
