The SS is fast, and the Zl1 is faster. Owning one for most means putting our foot into it now and then. I don't believe, not for a minute, that all Camaro owners save it for the track. But we can try to minimize the risks. For the most part, if I get on mine, I make sure I'm on an open road, with no one around. That, of course, doesn't guarantee that I won't blow a tire and hit a tree or power line. I keep mine to short bursts, as I realize the possible dangers. Anything could happen, but I won't lie and say that I always keep it under 55. I don't drink or text when driving, and keep both hands on that wheel, but I'm aware that the danger goes up when I kick it in. We don't know what happened here, but yes, sadly, speed did play a part. We have all done it. Just be careful in populated areas and save it for the wide open highway.

Guess we're all assuming he was driving and he likely was, but I haven't seen definitive proof. I'll keep my torch and pitchfork at bay on his guilt until I do.

Best post yet.....seems to be alot of people that collectively know squat about what happened here. You guys are treating this guy like a criminal without knowing anything. Why is street racing brought up in evey crash when a fast car is invovled. Could of just been showing off a bit and lost control. Not one of you can say you havnt given it a bit in your car.....this until known otherwise is just a sad accident. Give these people a little respect.

5gens are SOLID cars. For a ZL1 to be split in half like that, by a flimsy stop sign, car had to be going at a ridiculous rate of speed...
Apparently there were witnesses... "Witnesses said the car appeared to be involved in a street race when the crash occurred". Whether street racing or not, dad put his daughter's life at risk, by driving too fast for his skill level or allowing his daughter to drive beyond her skill level. Either way, no "Dad of the year" award for him.

In regards to that crash, I believe I read that the tires were to blame. Not that the tires were bald, but as they aged, (over 6 years or so) they did not have the gripping power that they once had. I believe that car was bought from a collector who rarely used it, hence the tires being unworn. However, age does set in, the tires don't grip, and this is what I believe I read contributed to the crash of Walker and Rodas.

Very sad. Thoughts and prayers to those involved. Last thing you want to see as a car enthusiast; especially considering he had a teenage daughter in the car.

Very sad. I wonder just how fast they were going to split a Camaro in half. I've seen some horrible crashes of Camaros like the guy who flipped at 200+ mph, but this is the first I've seen split in two. RIP to the victims and prayers for the surviving family.

These cars are fast as we all know and its very easy to sustain speeds that may be beyond the drivers skill set. Its up to us all to acquire the skills necessary to handle the speed in as safe environment as possible and to ensure the car is mechanically maintained to perform predictably. Having said all this, there are always variables on the street that can make circumstances combine to yield tragic events such as this.
My prayers and condolences I offer to the family.
