8 speed or 10 speed for 1LE?

Just curious - since the 1LE is supposed to be a track car, why is it not offered with the 8 or the new 10 speed auto? Both transmissions would be faster at the track not only because of fast shifts but also keeping the car in the optimum power range. Does anybody know if the '18 1LE Package might include an auto. option?

At this time not. It is a track car so manual 6 speed is the order of the day.

I have very limited knowledge of automatic transmissions on track, but I believe on a HPDE type track day they have far more overheating issues with an auto than with a manual. Now for drag racing they are supposed to be the sh!t

I was just curious. I prefer paddle shifting autos. but I like everything else about the 1LE. So I am creating my own version on my 8 speed 1SS with 10"/11" replica wheels from Phastek Performance, factory suspension lowering kit and factory performance exhaust. Missing will be the Recaro seats, but they can be ordered from parts albeit at a higher premium. The stock seat side bolsters just aren't aggressive/narrow enough for me.

you'll need to source sway bars, mag ride, and eLSD as well.

Don't want mag ride, prefer the lower stance of the factory suspension lowering kit. I just like the looks of the 1LE. I'll get RECAROS from Chev Performance parts, the wheels from Phastek and some nice factory performance upgrades. I'm 75 and don't trust myself at the track anymore anyway!

My Camaro buddy I track with overheated the A8 in 3 laps at Laguna Seca, they are tough to cool when pushed at 10/10th. The A8/10 are still torque converter type transmissions, not double clutch like a Porsche, so they get heat soak pretty quickly.

When they gave the press laps in the ZL1 it was running for hours at track speeds without overheating...So?

Also the manual is far more rewarding to drive than an automatic it's not all about laptimes.

Maybe so. Hopefully they have the A10 worked out, if not there are going to be some mad ZL1 owners on here! Neither Ford nor GM disclosed what the "issue" with the A10 was last year, anyone here know?

Ford took the lead on the A10 while GM the A9. Ford designed it for the raptor and gm had to do some tweaking for ZL1 duty.

haha, makes sense. i suggest you try the recaros before you buy them. while they are wonderful seats, getting out of them is not the easiest.

I feel like it was marketing more than anything. A10 in the ZL1 only to protect the ZL1.

A10 will likely filter into the C7Z first (and/or whatever ZR1 variant, and Zora/MR variant too), and then a year or so later I'd bet you see it in the Camaro Z28, C7GS, CTSV, and Denali/Caddy trucks... Another year after that the base C7, Camaro SS/1LE models, ATS/V line and the lesser V8 trucks.

There was an article I remember reading saying GM planned on putting that A10 in TEN different GM models sometime in the future, and the ZL1 was just the first of them.
