I've worked at dealerships for over twenty years. I think the service manager is mistaken and you should have the remainder of you're 5/60 powertrain warranty.

Did they tell you why change the story? That decision must have come down from the GM.

I suppose in one sense you are better off if you drive high miles since you are getting 100k versus the original 60k. And depending when your warranty clock started, a fresh three years may be only a year or so less than what you had left so maybe an ok tradeoff.

Would definitely get that engine put in at GM's expense and then trade the car in for something else. You don't want the cars reliability to be tied to a dealership install.

Wow just got another call from the dealer service writer to clarify that he had mistaken information and that the ENGINE will be here Monday, not ENGINEERS...

As soon as you accept the car and sign papers, turn around and dump it at the same dealership.

That's crap of GM to not offer new engines when theirs shit the bed.

Engine came in today and installation is getting done as we speak. They say should be no longer than Wednesday if everything goes smoothly.

I agree with this. Why wouldn't the remainder of your full warranty for the full powertrain still be in effect?

Bowtie, good news!

Although I agree that the powertrain should be the standard 5/60k.. in his situation he was grateful that they didn't give him any flack for the small mods.

After all is said and done, I would try to talk to the service manager to get him to honor the 5/60k warranty

I am going to verify the warranty when I pick it up and get it in writing. Will report back after picking her up

Any Idea WHO remanufactured the engine? GM?

Still....I think You did OK.

This was years back, but a buddy blew the engine in his year old 396/375 HP Chevelle SS. When the engine seized, he damaged either the rear or transmission as well. Rear tires locked up and he hit a median rail.

The car WAS fairly heavily modded ; headers, cam, Hurst shifter, hd clutch, blow proof bell housing, etc. The local Chevy Dealer wouldn't warranty anything. Arguing it was now a drag car.

Then the Insurance Company refused to help with the body damage as they argued it was now a "competition only" car. He ate the entire mess.
