Aftermarket Cai probably not much better 4hp gain 4 trq gain and cost three times more. But, they LOOK BETTER.

Aftermarket is needed more the further you get from stock. The stock box is excellent for a stock configuration. After that you start seeing the gap widen.

Ummmmm.... NOT EXACTLY

I was describing a test pull using the stock air box with no air filter and comparing that with a test pull in a completely stock configuration (and possibly another test with the stock box with a K&N filter).

This would keep the tune (and MAF config) constant while showing how the engine would run with virtually no airflow restriction. I'm betting the results would look about the same as with the K&N filter.

(Stock engine in all tests)

According to someone typing in on dyno run data it says 3rd gear run.

Please use 4th on manual and 6th on an auto

We are here to help if you need it

Problem with this is the only virtually no airflow restriction baseline would be a velocity stack in still air outside of the engine compartment. The stock box is interesting in of itself as there is a whole bunch of ribs cast into it that have no structural reason to be in there. Is it for sound? are they for flow? are they to change or mitigate harmonic resonance? DUNNO. Does having no filter in there mean no resistance (as far as the stock box is concerned)? probably but dunno.

I have run CAI CAI, stock box, stock box cut with green filter, Mishimoto and soon I'll try the remade Mishimoto.. IMO there is not much difference

Wow! I actually believed you the only thing that's gotta be different is the exhaust sound because of the huge air filters.?

Yes of the cold air intake assembly on the car, if you don't mind

Fyi - l86 is seeing near lt1 levels of power with just a CAI. L86 has higher vacuum readings at WOT than the LT1.

Lt1 intake manifold on the l86 does not do much.

I think the lt1 has a pretty nice factory airbox
