How do I know when I've bled fully (power bleeder)? Volume?

I am going to be swapping my DOT 3 for DOT 4 this weekend for an upcoming track day. Apparently I've been living in a hole for years because I just now found out that Super Blue Racing is no longer legal because of some dumb law against blue brake fluid. So I ordered up some Motul RBF 600. My car has 1,800 miles on it and only one auto-x event so the fluid is guaranteed to be almost perfect still. Super Blue would turn dark pretty quick so it was easier to see when you were done bleeding.

Has anyone checked how much you bleed from each corner so I know when it's all done? I'm planning on marking my bleeder bottle. Thanks.

when a shop did my ss lines and fluid they did it with a power bleeder first and brakes were super squishy so they had to do it manually like twice overall job took about twice the amount of time they thought and needed at least two people

Well that sucks. It sounds like they must have sucked in some air from the reservoir.

Just flushed my fluid today for an upcoming track day.

Took slightly less than 1L. I have a Mityvac.

Pumped all the fluid out of the reservoir 1st, refilled with new, then pumped out each caliper until I saw the new stuff in the tube.

I went with Castrol SRF.

BTW - surprisingly, I had a significant amount of air in my lines from the factory. I only have about 2,000 miles on mine and the pedal feel got WAY better after the bleed.

Castrol SRF is expensive...but great stuff.

I second the < 1L suggestion.

My super scientific method is using the power bleeder and getting to the line on each caliper, usually swaps around 2pints, and has yet to fail me on the track or autoX.

I have had mixed results with the Power Bleeder. On my WRX I used the power bleeder and it just kept being squishy. Then I went back to the regular method and it was fine the first time.

Now, I just do the two person method...tried and true and probably a little more foolproof.

Aim to use 2qt. On your first flush then 1 qt. after each 2 track days ( unless you use Castrol...then you are good for 6-8 months).
Take out the most amount on the first corner, then a little less for the rest of the corners.

You're wasting a lot of brake fluid if you go to the line on every corner but thank you for the info. I'll try to hit that line on the right rear.

No worries, one has to have feelings in the first place to get them hurt

So I did the change over today. I used all 3 bottles of Motul just to be safe since I couldn't get a ton of fluid out of the master cylinder reservoir because of the design.

The rears were still the perfect new color but the fronts had already darkened pretty good with only one auto-x day (4 total runs) and 1,800 miles on the odometer. It was my first time using the power bleeder and wow how easy it is. I definitely recommend it!
