Sucks that these cars will be obsolete in a few years, specially with all the new EPA and safety crap in the works by our good ol' gov.

Still, enjoy them while theyre hot! I know i will!
Don't worry, Trump is taking care of a majority of those ridiculous EPA regs as we speak so we will be ok for a while. But he won't be in office forever, the pendulum will swing back and we will have another 'Obama' in the Whitehouse eventually.

Hoping my 2017 SS ( 5 weeks and counting ) isn't too much maintenance ??

My old impala has to be treated with respect ! try sourcing parts in the UK for a 62' dual quad 4 speed 409. I love it but its stressful !

I also have owned a mint '69 AMX 390 Go Pack, a '73 Grand Am with a 400, a '77 Trans Am T/A 6.6, an '83 Mustang 5.0 coupe, an '85 Capri 5.0, and several Japanese turbo AWD cars.

I rode in tons of other muscle cars. When a bias ply 60 was a good tire, it was all about the hookup 100 feet off the line, which was pretty much impossible in many cases. The cool thing was the thrust you got when the car finally did hook up.

Believe it or not, IMHO the best muscle cars were not the big blocks like my Mach I, they were the more common cars running the 340 Chrysler, the 390 AMC, the 351 Ford and the 350 Chevy. Boss 302/Z/28? I'd take one of those over a 454 Chevelle, a 428 Mach I or a 455 Olds any day. My AMX was a totally fun car, not as fast as the big blocks, but it actually handled a little bit. Not nearly as well as today's cars of course, but at least you weren't in fear for you life on every corner.

One of the best muscle cars I ever rode in was a friend's 340 'Cuda. That car sounded awesome, ran great, and looked better than any other car of its era, and it was not too nose heavy or uncontrollable like the 440s. It ate the 383's for lunch and beat a lot of 440's because it would get traction. The 340 was the best engine of the muscle car era, once you got it carb'ed correctly.

With all that said, a V6 Camaro off the showroom in 2017 would kill 95% of the muscle cars ever built as they rolled off the showroom. Bone stock, most of those cars needed tuning, headers, a manifold/carb, traction bars and slicks to come anywhere near the 13's.
The engines themselves had the grunt but could not take advantage of that grunt due to traction, inefficient 2, 3 and 4 speed transimissions that just dropped to many rpms between each shift because the ratios were spaced so far apart. Todays 6 and 8 speed trannies are better because of the closer ratios from one gear to the next.

The people clamoring about regulations fail to see the MUCH larger automotive market through their rose-tinted windshields. It isn't emissions regulations that limit what can be made, it's the manufacturers' responses to consumer demands.

The point is, vehicles today are safer, make more power using less fuel, and ruin the environment less so future generations don't have as much of our selfishness to clean up.

Nobody is coming to take your V8s.

My 70 chevelle only has 350 hp at the moment, but the chevelle gets way more attention by just about everyone. My Camaro would blow it away. That being said I'd love to put the LT1 power plant in the chevelle.

that is....if your car of the future even has a steering wheel....or you even own your own car?

I can see driverless cars everywhere.....just use your phone or maybe your watch...or maybe the implant in your brain and call up the driverless ride of your choice...it comes to you.... picks you up... and take you home.
no car payment...no insurance....no fuel bill.......just a minimal per mile charge.

think I'm crazy?
lol....it wont be long

Is it the 396? Some 396's had 375hp and they say they were underrated. And yes the late 60s early 70s Chevelle has always been a beautiful car even when they came out.
