The earlier 5th Gen's needed some help..I think the heritage grill helped it quite a bit.

I agree the 2014 MCE made it a much more aggressive appearing car.

Chevrolet really out did themselves on our convertible. Fords attempt isn't impressing me at all in these pics.

The Camaro system is very, very premium.

The '17/'18 Mustang is already failing crash tests. No longer is it a death car to be around, it is officially a death car to drive.

Crazy to think that Ford didn't include items such as AEB (Automatic Emergency Braking) or precollision warning systems, etc.

Just a headline reader huh?
If you actually read article you would have seen that the Mustangs tested were pre '18's.

Which compare almost identically to Camaro, according to the IIHS. Euro NCAP tests are different that the NTHSA and IIHS tests. With Camaro testing almost indentically to Mustang structurally, and also not offering the same safety features the Euro Mustang is missing, it most likely would not have faired any better.

However, according to the article linked:

"Ford is launching a facelifted Mustang for 2018, which will be available to order in Europe this September. Ford confirmed that the updated model will get several safety features, including pre-collision assist - with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning and AEB – as well as lane-keeping assist. However, it has yet to confirm whether that equipment will be standard or available as part of an options pack."

Not just a headline....I would be genuinely interested to see how the Camaro would fare...Mustang's not doing well, and it's not just because of tech and safety features. Seems like airbag deployment allows the head to impact the steering wheel??? I'm no expert on safety testing, and I might be wrong...but I somehow doubt that airbag deployment speeds would vary between US and the rest of the world....

Sounds like Ford didn't want this car tested until 2018 for whatever their reasons...and have been selling it without a rating for a year or two, now. Australia and Europe vehicle safety administrations finally got together and bought their own cars to do tests, and it didn't go well.

"I would urge Ford to take this as a wake up, to swiftly upgrade the vehicle where they can. It is not just about seatbelt reminders and safety assist, there are fundamental points about airbag deployment and doors that should be looked at and explained."

Bottom line is if you are really concerned about vehicle safety and crash tests, these are not the kind of cars you should be buying. You can say that about any sports/muscle/pony car too. People buying Ferraris, Corvettes, Vipers, 911's, aren't thinking about this sort of thing. You buy a car like that, there of course has to be trade offs.

A larger sedan or SUV from Volvo would be your best bet...but the slow airbag deployment speed is something else. That needs to be fixed by Ford asap.

I don't know that I agree with that. I suppose I could see where light weight and whatnot may cause a vehicle to have lower-than-stellar ratings. But you shouldn't have to compromise safety expectations just to go fast...in some cases, the chassis stiffness and tuning go hand in hand between the two goals.

...Especially if some git decides to blow a stop sign while I'm on the way to the track...you know?
