Traction Control Stopped Working After New Tires

I just installed new tires, I got the same set up as many others have gotten on the forum - 20x10" front w/ BFG 275/35 and 20x11 rear w/ BFG 305/35 and never heard of anyone having any issues.

After a few medium accelerations my traction control light came on and started to blink and continued to blink even after I came to a stop at the light. I was able to get it to go away by pressing the traction control button on and off but after this happened a few times my check engine light came on.

I saw on a thread on the Camaro5 forum saying that certain tires (if they change the overall diameter too much) can cause issues to the traction control sensors but I know many people with this same exact configuration and never heard of this issue occurring.

Anyone have this issue with their car? Anyone know what the fix is for this, can the traction control be reprogrammed/reconfigured, how much does that cost?

UPDATE:
(1) I know that the rear tire has is 0.8" larger in overall diameter than the front, this is what must have caused traction control issues. I know a 305/30 size tire should fix the issue, however you cannot get that size in the BFG Comp 2 and I want to run an A/S tire so a 305/35 is my only option
(2) I know a few people that ran these tires before me, none of them had this issue when I talked to them before I purchased these
(3) I unplugged my batter for 10 min and after that the issue went away
(4) I've been driving for 1,000 mi with this configuration and no issues, I can launch hard and traction control works fine, I can turn it all off and do a burn out and the turn it back on and it all works fine.

That's weird. Do these cars have a yaw sensor or speed sensor that the techs may have damaged when they installed the tires? Maybe try disconnecting the battery/global reset.

Check your wire harness that is inside the drivers side rear wheel well. Most likely you have rubbed through it. I was almost through mine but caught it in time to where I was able to re-wrap it and move it over.

There have been NUMEROUS posts about 305/35s rubbing in the rear, specifically the wiring harness. That's the first place i'd check as it sounds like you may have rubbed right through it.

I am aware of the rubbing that has been reported, but not aware of any traction control issues.

I did relocate the wire harness on the rear driver side wheel prior to putting on the tires even though I haven't actually experienced much rubbing like others have.

That harness runs fuel gauges/fuel sensors, and maybe a mylink cable, all of those things function properly. That harness does not have have anything to do with ABS/traction control which is why I am wondering what the issue is since the only thing I can think of is different tire size messing with the TC sensors but nobody here has had that issue so I am currently stumped.

UPDATE:

So I unplugged the battery for 5 min and plugged it back in and the check engine light went away. I was worried the traction control/stabilitrak lights would blink but after some hard pulls it's running fine now. Turned the TC off and did a tiny burn out, turned the TC back on and it all still worked.

So no clue what the actual issue was, but it's all good now!

i had it happen to my car when switching over from stock wheels and tires to my new wider wheels and tires but it went away after a day or two

I don't understand why people are going to 305/35 when stock is 275/35. The side profile is calculated as 0.35 X width. So when you increase width, you need to decrease the profile ratio to get the same sidewall profile.

.35 X 275 = 96.25 mm
.35 X 305 = 106.75 mm
.30 X 305 = 91.5 mm

So 305/30/20 would be closer to stock diameter. Either way the speedo is going to be thrown off and I expect traction control could be affected.

Yes but you can't have a smaller rear diameter than the front. That will really jack up the traction control.

I think the stock front tire size is slightly larger in diameter than rear.

245/45/20 gives you a profile of 98 mm and 275/35/20 = 96.25 mm.

I'd like to go to 315/30/20 on rear = 94.5 mm (but still is smaller than stock)

Except it's 245/40 but yes you are correct, it's 98mm. When the back is spinning faster than the front, traction control is going to kick in. Thus if your tire in the rear is too much smaller than your front, then you're gonna have issues.

Yup...you are 💯% correct. I'm surprised how many people don't understand how this works. ive tried 275-35 front and 305-30 rear and TC kicked in early because the CPU thinks the rears are spinning because it rotates faster because of the decreased height.

Rule of thumb...if you change the stock height stagger, make the rear taller. This way...the only issue you might have would be TC kicking in a hair later.
