Just Installed my Mishimoto Intake, Sounds Great
Just installed my Mishimoto Cold Air Intake, it sounds great but I know I won't really see any gains until I eventually get her tuned. I'm not quite ready to void the warranty with a custom dyno tune so my next step will be to install the Vitesse Throttle Controller to see how that improves on performance. I've hear do some people seeing some gains on their quarter mile times and even 0-60 times using that so I'm going to give that a try.

Be cautious. When I had this intake, I had a noticeable lag during launch. It was like the car had to take a breath before it decided to launch. When I reverted back to the stock airbox, that issue went away. I'm not sure if this is something that happens with every Mishi intake but, that was my experience with it. They were cool and gave me a full refund though.

Hmmm... that's interesting, I'll keep an eye out for that, haven't really noticed anything like that on the road so far, but when I take it to the track in the spring I'll put it through the test. Almost sounds like the computer is overcompensating for the extra air, getting a tune would solve that, but I don't plan to do that for a while because I don't want any issues with warranties yet.
I'm also installing a Vitesse Throttle Controller this week, so I'm not sure if that will "fix" the lag issue since it ultimately reduces throttle lag, but we shall see. Quote:

Just installed mine as well, love the extra noise. Only gripe I have is that the MAF tube is a little short. Over tightening the filter clamp makes causes filter to slide off, has to be just right. With regard to throttle lag, I don't notice when manually rev matching, feels like stock box. I'll upload my GoPro footage with mufflers turned on and off when I get the chance to visit relatives with internet haha.

Well, I couldn't keep the filter from falling off. With the MAF tube flange pressed against outside of heat shield, the tube just does not protrude far enough through the heat shield for filter clamp to grab.
So, I called Mishimoto and they had a quick suggestion, "try mounting the tube with the flange inside the heat shield." To do this, I had to remove the rubber strip from the hole in the heat shield, place tube through the hole, then reinstall the rubber strip (absolute PITA). The silicone intake pipe has just enough length to still clamp down onto the MAF tube, and the filter is clamped on solid. I'll give another update after couple days if this solves the issue of filters falling off. |

I had no issues with my install and don't really understand what you are saying is wrong on yours, do you have pictures? It almost sounds like the orientation might be off and once you realign it all it should work out.

I attached 3 images: first shows the filter falling off, second shows where the flange used to be outside the air box, and third image shows where the flange is now with filter up tight up against it. The MAF tube has a flange that presses up against the outside of the heat shield in a normal install to make installation easy (not spending a ton of time positioning the MAF tube). However, with the flange as tight against the heat shield as possible, the tube doesn't stick into the air box very far. This was causing my filter clamp to slowly pull the filter off when tightened even if the engine wasn't running. I could drive fine to work and find the filter had fallen off by lunch. So I called Mishimoto and they suggested shoving the flange through the heat shield hole into the air box. Intake tube can still clamp to MAF tube and the filter hasn't fallen off so far thanks to extra clamp surface area. Keeping fingers crossed, don't like the idea of losing my filter during my 50 mile one way commute to work... |

I had similar issues. Ran a small bead of silicone. Hasn't moved in months. But I'm selling mine only because I get bored and want to try new things.

Oh now I see what the issue is. I didn't have to do what Mishimoto told you but what I did when I was installing my MAF tube was align the flange up against the outside of the heat shield/air box and I loosened the clamp going to the main rubber tube (to the left of the MAF tube) until I had the MAF tube and flange lined up and then retightened the clamp on the left side. There was still plenty of overlap between the main rubber tube and the MAF tube. This seems a lot easier than what Mishimoto told you to do and I've had no issues on mine so far, but they should know their system better than I haha. Hope it all stays together for you now!
