M6 no lift shift : loud backfire upon shift? Am i doing it right?

Just found this section, maybe you guys can help me.

2017 SS, manual transmission. All stock, 2000 miles, always run premium gas.

So I went to the drag strip last week and tried no lift shift for the first time. While it did seem to function and do it's job correctly, every time I would use it, right when I would shift I would get a loud backfire from the car. I thought I was doing it wrong so I stopped. I tried it again when I went back to the drag strip this weekend, and same thing, a loud backfire when I shift. I have the car in competition mode, I am shifting at around 6200-6300 rpm (not hitting the rev limiter), and I am holding the gas to the floor for the whole pass. Not sure what I am doing wrong? But I am afraid of breaking something with the car backfiring like this. When i shift normally, I never get these loud backfire like sounds.

Has anybody else tried this no lift shift feature? Is it supposed to do that loud backfire like sound?

My first time at track in about ten years. First trip i only ran twice, 12.6 was my best. Spun alot.. second time i ran five times and got better, ran two 12.3's with pretty bad 2.1 60's. Ill get better as i get more seat time and it comes back to me lol.

Gotta get confirmation im using no lift shift correctly, but most don't even seem to know these cars have it, let alone use it.

Are you sure its not just hitting the rev limit?

100% positive.

I've done some Googling and it seems the loud backfire is actually an afterfire and normal when using no lift shift properly.

I would like to hear from others who have used it as well though.

From what I understand and don't quote me.... but I read somewhere on here that the computer completely pulls timing during shifts and the backfire sound is normal... I don't have a manual however I can tell you my automatic does it almost all the time in competitive mode especially the 1-2 and 2-3 shift...

I wouldn't worry about it and I'd say its completely normal...

I have read similar, just looking for some input from owners who may have actually given it a try...see if they hear the same loud pop-backfire-gunshot sound as me when they shift into second gear for example

I didn't know that feature existed either until I started getting some feedback from posting 1/4 mile experiences this past weekend. I was just starting to look it up to learn more about it. I'm sure it works similarly on the ZL1. So does it only work in competitive modes? I'll try this next time I'm at the track.

I get it too, started a similar thread as well.

The nls "gunshot" sound seems to be normal.

I've not tried the no-lift shift yet, I just try to shift as fast as possible. Has anyone cut any time at the track by not lifting?

Give it a shot. Depending on how quick you lift and shift, no lift shift may or may not be a benefit as far as time. It does give you less to worry about though. Seems like most SS owners don't even know their car has NLS...

That's great! Your looking at 12.2 or 12.3 on a good launch maybe even better.
Did you flip the revmatching downshift paddle? You may need to (or do you need to) activate that for NLS?

NLS will work with ARM on or off...just can't be in snow/ice or tour modes. Pretty sure just sport and track...
