Guy dumps $45K or so for a 455 HP car, tracks it, then is too cheap to take it to a certified Chevrolet dealership to have the work done according to protocol. Instead, finds the cheapest hack shop he can find.

My only question is..."What did you think was going to happen?"

The Chevy dealer broke the window on my 1500 mile silverado and tried to hide it by putting something on the glass and smearing it. Too bad for them I had just picked it up from a detail shop and the glass was spotless when I got there. They tried and tried to say it did not happen, so I walked into the shop (right past the service manager) and surprise, there is an overhead air line hanging with a chuck on it, right at the same height as the damaged window. I looked at the service manager and said "Replace my *^%* glass right now"..................an hour later I was gone, and have NEVER returned. So much for the "most expensive hack" around.

Love it when people reply with the one time or rare anecdotal story. All of a sudden every dealership service dept are lying thieves, lol. Just imagine what the owner of this shop would've 'done' about your window...probably told you to go do anatomically impossible things to yourself.

Well he lost $100k in business over the next year...and once again THEY TRIED TO HIDE IT...and that's the point. I doubt it is a "one off" when they do that, sounds like it was "instructed" to me.

Not doubting your story at all, and yeah, it sucks. You were right to not go back there. Just making the point that sleazy dealers like that are in the minority. Also that taking the car to some small independent shop like the one in question here is an even bigger roll of the dice.

The question is, why would he take his Camaro to a German Car Shop?

I agree that bad repair shop behavior should not be tolerated and I agree that bad shops should be reported, however, I also know that good local shops respond to quality feedback. So lets start a thread or a resource center that highlights shops where members have great experiences. Based on years of experience, here are mine: Bend, Oregon: Smolich Dodge. Oregon City, Oregon: Jim Estes Garage.
And for the shops that get coal in their stocking: lets start a thread for that but lets keep the reporting factual. No hyperbole.

[QUOTE=Eric SS;9469008]It made it to my front page. Lucky no kids darted out into the neighborhood streets.

Holy crap that is by my old house! I know that location well. My cousin had a repair shop across the street from where the video starts. Amazing. Years ago as a paramedic I ran a call in Newbury Park where the mechanic took out a brand new Vette and totaled it on a joyride. When we pulled up the Vette was burned to the ground. Oops!
