Alcantara Steering Wheel & Shift Knob
Do the Alcantara steering wheel and shift knob provide a good feeling when driving your ZL1's or is it something that owners want to swap out to leather?

There is a reason that it is used in many high-end vehicles as well as by Formula 1 teams for fire-retardant seats. Google Alcantara and you will be amazed at all of the great info on the subject. And yes it feels awesome!

Most leave it. Cleaning isn't difficult it you keep on it regularly...many "how to clean microsuede" tutorials out there...I just attack it with a clean microfiber towel and some diluted rubbing alcohol. Otherwise - it feels very rich, adds an expensive vibe to the interior...and besides that - the suede on the seats hold you in place FAR better than any amount of leather, short of a full racing bucket seat. |

I like the alcantara on the steering wheel and shifter because it doesn't get slick like leather does when your hands are a little sweaty.
As far as cleaning, I've had good luck with a water dampened microfiber towel and a convertible top/leather cleaning brush.

I love the fabric but despise the bulky shifter. Having the Barton short shifter with round ball on my Gen 5, this things is like going from Taylor Swift to Adele.

I find the OEM Alcantara bits aesthetically pleasing, in addition to having a better feel overall than the leather options

I want to swap mine for traditional leather. I started a thread a little while back to compile a list of part #s for others who are interested in doing the same.

Love my alcantara wheel & knob in my gen5. Buy a $5 suede cleaning brush from a drugstore, and it'll keep them like new - I just used it on 17K miles of wear for first time and it revived them like new - brush only, nothing else.

I didn't opt for it in my 2012, that was a mistake. It is soooo comfortable, and grippy!

The alcantara will wear quickly and will smoothen out but it sure looks and feel great. Leather is the way to go for longer life.

Not true it will wear quickly or smoothen out. Just take a brush to it when it starts to flatten (after thousands of miles) and it'll stay like new.
