I've got the rear-diff groaning problem as well. Already had the fluid replaced once, still doing it.

This guy seems to have similar problems as you. See vid below..
https://youtu.be/VJ00b7mN36M?t=65 Here's the fix... software update. There's a TSB for it apparently. |

The metal debris is normal, it's from the gears wearing into each other.

If you look at 1:36 when he presses the home button. Then press "Audio", you can see the screen responded that the button was pressed. BUT the screen has a "phantom finger" that kept pressing "Text" then the "Phone". Then again when he press home. You can see that a "phantom finger" is repeatedly pressing around that area very rapidly, which causes the "unresponsiveness". Even though you can see that the screen did response when he presses other buttons. The OP's "phantom finger" doesn't press as rapidly as this guys' when the screen started to respond. lol

An LSD strikes a balance between static and sliding friction. In straight line movement the preload spring locks both sides of the differential together and the rear wheels moves like a solid axle. This is static friction. In a turn, the wheels want to move at different speeds. The preload spring is tuned so that the clutches start to slip in a turn. This is sliding friction which has much lower "grip" than static friction. The friction modifiers are called that because they "modify" the friction coefficient and encourage the plates to keep slipping. This keeps the clutches from going grab-slip-grab-slip-grab-slip... and so on. That action causes chatter or groan. For proper operation the clutch surfaces need to be machined properly and be free of debris. Some LSD's require a break-in procedure. I have not heard of that for a factory car, but those having noise problems might want to give this a try: http://diffsonline.com/images/Differ...break%20in.pdf EDIT: Some stuff I found on the Gen5 diff sounds similar, as does the solution: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...=417907&page=2 Last edited by ctrlz; 01-11-2017 at 09:42 AM. |
