ANC Mics: Phone & Voice Command Too?

Having read through here, I was under the impression that disconnecting the Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) microphones would just take that away, but now I have no voice command, bluetooth phone, etc.

So those microphones are the only microphones? How do I keep voice command and bluetooth but disable ANC? If cutting the wire at the Bose AMP, then I lose both audible turn signals and rear cross traffic alert, right? But retain bluetooth and voice commands?

Basically, I'm losing something, right?

2SS w/Bose definitely has it. It caused a bunch of problems with my system replacement until we disconnect the microphones. Problem is now I lost all voice control/command of everything. I'm trying to figure out if it's related or not.

maybe this is something new for the 2ss for 2017. For the 2016 models i am pretty sure it was determined that only the 4 banger got ANC. I know it's not on my 2016 V6 with Bose.

edit: maybe for the 4 banger i'm thinking of the engine enhancement audio rather than ANC. Still dont think it's active for the V6 with bose because there isn't any noise being cancelled in my car. There's nobody complaining that they can't hear my MRT v1 when i hit those magic rpms. Some ANC would come in handy.

My understanding is that all the engines get something, with the V4 being different from the V6 and V8. See this thread: http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=409172

Well, it's my understanding that the mic by the driver's A pillar that actually picks up what you're talking is wired to the same BCM that contains the Onstar radio. From here audio is pkg'd into the MOST bus and sent to the bose amp.

Not sure what the plugs people point out for the Bose amp to unplug really go to. The stupid service manual should be out eventually (soon).

I assume your onstar lights are all active on your rear view mirror. If not, then maybe they just pulled the onstar fuse to disable the mics (assuming the other mics are connected at this same point). If they're not connected at the on-star unit like the voice mic then I dont see any reason why disconnecting the other mics would impact the voice one. The voice one definitely is connected to your audio system in series through the onstar unit.

That's helpful thanks! According to the shop, they disconnect one mic in each door.

It's weird because I don't have any voice input now at all. Nothing for the Chevy voice commands, no ability to talk to OnStar, no Siri/Carplay, and when people call, they can't hear me speaking.

Reading all the other threads here, people just talking about disconnecting the ANC mics and never complain about losing total ability for any voice input, so something is different or wrong in the 2017 vs 2016, or I don't know.

Those people dont disconnect the mics at the doors. they just disconnect the wire at the bose amp in the plug associated with the ANC mics. if you can trust the forum investigators operating on a lack of documentation.

cellsafemode is correct -- the A-pillar hole is the voice mic. It is well documented because of issues with bad windshield sealant causing lots of noise in the pillars that make it impossible for the system to understand you on the highway (and your calls sound like crap too).

People have used 3 methods to defeat the ANC mics: unplug the mic in the doors, unpin the mics from the harness & cut the mic wires. I have not seen anyone else complain about losing the voice mic when doing any of these 3.

You are thinking the "fake engine sound" pumped through the speakers. ANC is in all of the Bose equipped cars to reduce road noises.

And it does a horrible job of trying to reduce road noise at that. I swear the Camaro must have zero sound deadening material and rely solely on the electronics.

Those RFTs are the biggest contributor, but you are right. Sound deadening was one of those things greatly reduced to help shed weight. Was worth it IMO, just need to get rid of the RFTs.

Any idea how difficult it is to unlink the ANC lead at the amp plug? I'd rather not take the door panels off to disconnect the mics there and I don't want to cut the wire.

There are other threads here which tell you the wires to cut near the amp. The ANC system also gets multiple data feeds:
